Considering another gps for the fifth wheel. Came across the Garmin 760lmt. Just wondering, you guys that own one of these, is there that much difference from the other Garmins for cars? Have you had a good exp with this unit?

thanks

Yes, I think you need a cell phone with data + a sub to the garmin weather service, same for "enhanced traffic", and a few of the other upgraded services.

If I'm driving somewhere I don't know the lay of, and it's heavy traffic, I'll use Google Maps - google's real time traffic is scary accurate... more often than not, there's no better way for an RV to go, I don't want to get off the expressway and explore narrow surface streets to bypass a rubberneck traffic jam

thanks guys

Ok so to get the weather I have to get a subscription? Is it a one time thing or is is by the month?
Was there any reason the 760lmt is no longer made? Was there a problem? So is the 660 the only RV one made now? I can still get the 770lmt on Amazon. Is the only difference between the 660 and the 760 the screen size? Everything else is the same?

Ha funny I have one of the OLD Nuvi's also. Expensive at the time but still works great. Never had another Garmin that lasted near the length of time the old one has.

The bluetooth link with phone seems poorly thought out on Garmin's part. Plus it overrides your phone's link to your truck. I'd rather use the truck speakers and microphone with the phone rather than the small garmin jammed up under the windshield. The data link to the cell is supposed to warn you about weather and other conditions that impact your route. I don't know about you, I just check those things when I stop for gas or lunch.

Get a weather app for your unlimited iphone and set it to play an alert tone for you on bad weather.

I did not know the RV760 was discontinued, just bought one new over black friday weekend.

Comparing it to my ten year old 4" Nuvi... The Nuvi has features to track your fuel economy, that costs extra on the 760. I miss the little shutdown summary the Nuvi had - miles traveled, time spent, fuel used. The 760 just says shutting down, no summary.

I do like the big screen. I was spoiled in my last truck with the 8 inch uConnect Nav / Garmin built in the dash, combined with voice control it was very handy. The 760's voice control seems to work well, don't have to shout at it. I just need to forget all the commands from the old truck and learn the new ones.

Trucker units take you on truck routes sometimes miles out of the way, I know from first hand experience. My Garmin RV 660 is great, has many features that I like including continuous on screen to next truck stop (diesel fuel) and rest areas

Was a good day when the garmin truck unit fell and broke - then I got the Rv unit last May

Of course the RV unit has input for length, weight and height

The "trucker" versions, as opposed to car versions, allow for the input of vehicle info like length, width, height... which adjusts the routes it suggests. Now, I haven't compared them side by side to see exact differences but my car version will lead me down a narrow road and my trucker version in the coach stays more to the truck routes.

Sorry, can't tell you right now which models I have.

the Garmin RV760LMT is a discontinued item.. but still available

Garmin does offer a RV660LMT basically same but 6 inch instead of older 7 inch.

so I purchased the 770LMTHD "Trucker" unit. 7 inch and from POI Factory download to GPS the RV Campground files.... Free.

best of luck with your investigation.

I have it, I like it and I'd buy another. I like the large screen and the loud verbal directions when I want to turn them on in heavy traffic so I don't have to watch the screen.
