Home Phone Connect Question

I read the recent thread about the Verizon and StraightTalk home phone connect services. Has anyone with a pacemaker tried to use home phone connect to dial up for their periodic pacemaker check? The only reason we keep a land line is for my pacemaker dial in check ups and we are tired of buying the high AT&T monthly bill for that. Also, it is inconvenient trying to plan our trips around when we have to be at home for a dial up pacemaker check.

The Phone Connect will not work for data, it does not have any codecs installed except the bare necessities for voice.

I have a Medtronic monitor and both they and Verizon tell me it won't work. I travel a lot and build churches and usually the church, or one of it's members have a landline that I can get access to. Also if it's a day or two before I can get back home I just call them and re=schedule the monitor date. A friend of mine here at home owns his own business and he lets me drop by and use his line.

the OP is NOT asking about replacing his home land line
in so much , as asking, if the pacemaker data can be delivered thru the 'Home Connect'
SO HE CAN TRAVEL MORE FREELY
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

I think you'll find the old analog phone line is needed .. Depends on the machine your using .. If so just put your land line on "lifeline " service ..VERY-local free calling and measured ($) outgoing calls , free incoming calls and it should cost under 15- 20 bucks a month. Most phone company's don't advertise this level service .. You have to ask for it.the key is to never make outgoing calls with the landline. Use your cell phone.

I can't say for sure, but you might want to look at a Magic jack. We tried sending and receiving a fax with vonage and it wouldn't work, but the magic jack worked fine. So it might work for that application, and at $20 a year its hard to beat. They even have an app that works on a smart phone in case you don't have unlimited minutes.

I started with nothing and I still have most of it left

I never fail, I just succeed in finding out what doesn't work

From Verizon web site:
"Home Phone Connect is not compatible with home security systems, fax machines, DVR services, credit card machines, or medical alert services (e.g. Life Alert). HSI/DSL may or may not be available; please contact your service provider to determine if this product is available as a standalone offering."
It sounds like anything that does automatic data exchange won't work.

If you can use a cell phone for your check you are fine . Home phone connect is basically a cell phone you can connect your normal handsets too . It does not dial up per say.

Yes this is true. We have it at our home. Works great. It is a box that receives cell phone signal that hooks up to our home phone.
