My wife uses her Kindle to connect to the internet every where we go. We arrived at this campground and there is no password to connect to wi-fi. The wifi says connected but on the tool bar there is an X in the wifi signal which according to the help section means a password is required. My lap top connected with no pass word. I tried calling the administrator but because it is Thanksgiving no one answered. This is the first time we have had a problem with it. Our geekie granddaughter has a Nook and she had no suggestions as to how to get past this problem. The park wi-fi tower is about 60 feet from our RV so this is a new problem that we need to over come prior to our trip next year....

I side loaded an optional browser in my daughters Kindle 8.9". The Dolphin browser does not go through Amazon servers.

My Kindle has done that a few times. We have a wireless router with a Verizon aircard.
Although we had two laptops connected to the Internet through the router the Kindle had the little red X. I did a power off/on reset on the router and that fixed it.
The next time it happened reseting the router didn't help and I had to reset the Kindle by holding the power switch in for 30 seconds (count them).

Thanks holding the power switch for 30 seconds worked, thanks again...

Sorta the same thing with the iPad.
Sometimes if you mess up the password it won't let you try again unless you tell it to ignore that network. Then you can start over.

Do this on the Kindle: Open the Browser, try to surf to www.google.com, I'll bet you'll get a screen asking you to log in. This is called a proxy server. It may ask for something like your site number and last name. Good luck. Many, many hotel WiFi's are setup like this.

It's called a captive portal.

Some also want your e-mail address. This is just another case where a trash e-mail address is good to have. We set up a gmail address just for trash mail. I give that address out to anybody that asks or when I purchase things on the internet. That way I don't have to sort through trash for personal e-mails. I noticed several RV parks are are going the route of contracting wifi service.
