All these people standing in line to order who don't use their phones or the kiosk. Cultural change is slow.

This thread is very entertaining and I read every post. I DO eat at Mc D's a few times a year or just order at the drive up. There's still something tasty about the q-pounder with cheese, fries, and a coke...no matter which way you order it- it's fast and pretty darn good tasting!
You can actually say that with a straight face? McDonalds has some things going for it, but since they changed their recipe for fries, nothing there is good tasting, some of it isn't as bad as other, but it's all pretty darned bland. You don't eat at Mickey-D's, you simply refuel.

So, from 1961 at .50 and 1973 when it was 1.60 things tripled. In the next 45 years it is only up another 4.5 times that 1.60 to 7.25. Anything sound out of proportion to you?
Congress cannot see beyond their own paycheck and the poor in this Country are taking it on the chin. About the only thing worse than working for minimum wage is working for Uber and Lyft where you can't even make that much!

I don't know what to tell you Bill, just stating historical facts. Of course the CPI is based on a basket of goods and doesn't cover everything equally. However, I can tell you that in 1961 I used to run out to the dairy with a glass gallon jar and get it filled with whole milk for 60 cents (it cost 10 cents more if they supplied the jar) and now I can get a gallon of homogenized, Vitamin D fortified milk for less than $3 any day of the week so that's less than a 500% increase in 57 years. The Rule of 72 states that if you had 4% annual inflation it would take 18 years for prices to double so in 54 years things would go up 800%. I don't believe we have averaged 4% per year so that sounds about right. The early 70s had the gas shortage which is one reason we had the high inflation during that 22 years including that period of time.

As far as Uber and Lyft is concerned the biggest problem I see is they consider you independent contractors so you have to file a Schedule C and pay the self-employment tax at 15.3% which means you are not really getting anywhere near what they imply they are paying you.

If the minimum wage kept up with inflation the minimum wage would now be close to $25/hour. Not sure why you think auto workers who make something like $50/hour to put a bolt on a wheel are entitled to more money than those folks trusted with the safety of the food you eat.

Bill, I think you exaggerate a bit. When I was working as a soda jerk in 1961, the CPI was 29.9. At the end of 2017 the CPI was 245.1 or 8.2 times as high. The federal minimum wage has gone from 50 cents (what I earned) in 1961 to 7.25 today though some states have raised it much higher. The 50 cents I was earning would now equate to 4.10 today which is nowhere near the $25 stated. Interesting enough is that the CPI was 100 in 1983 so we have only had 250% inflation in the last 35 years whereas it was was over 300% for the 22 years between 1961 and 1983.

Of course don't tell any of that to my wallet as it would gape in disbelief!! :?

OH MY GOSH!!! I just noticed RV NET allowed me to use the percent symbol. They must have finally fixed that!!! :B

Well, my lug nuts are always properly tightened (and none missing) when I buy a new car. Can't say my burger order always comes out the way I order it though.......

Well before long, you won't have anywhere to shop.
$15 min wage for these types of jobs is ridiculous. Flipping burgers @ McD's is not a job intended for someone to raise a family on! It's a job for high-schoolers or retirees, looking for a side job to make a few extra $$$$.

When the price of a big mac hits $12, the crazies will begin pushing for a $25/hr min wage! It will just self perpetuate from there.

It's business 101, reduce overhead. The kiosks and app help to reduce order errors.

This isn't just McDs. Pizza places all have online ordering. You don't need to call a human or go there.

I remember way back when...
Every large business had need of receptionist, typists, secretaries, mail clerks.
All of these offered great openings for advancement.
All gone now, mostly replaced by computers.
Some of the best corporate leaders came from the lowest ranks.

Like everything else we hated when the change happened, I suspect you are going to have to learn to live with it or do something else at some point in the near future. There will be 4 kiosks and 1 cashier. The cashier will also be fixing the coffee and drinks for the folks who ordered at the kiosk so it might take awhile to get your order placed.
I don't like it and I don't "currently" use it on a regular basis but I DO use it when I walk in and there are 10 folks ahead of me! I even used the phone app to order my meal while sitting at a table so I didn't have to wait in line. I was eating before the guy at the end of the line placed his order.

We are currently full time hosting,so as we arrive at a new campground, we scope out the local burger place. FAR better burgers and help support the local economy!!
