moving to Dish from Direct

We have had Directv for about 25 years. We put on vacation hold for three months and now they can't get it activated again after four days of trying including one in-home tech, and then wanted another 72 hours to figure it out. We cancelled DTV and want to go to Dish. We have had a Dish month to month plan for RV for years. My big question is am I going to be able to continue to use my Walley receiver for the RV with a Dish plan in the house or am I going to have to take a receiver from the house? I'm going to call Dish tech support and talk to them but I found in getting the Walley working with no instructions, there is a lot the tech people don't know. Even if I have to pay an extra $5/month (used to be) it would be worth it not to have to drag a receiver back and forth.
Suggestions would be welcome before I make a big mistake. Now have a 2017 Winnebago View 24V and need to change my profile.

Thanks,
Pam

I don't think I posted this but we did change to Dish and it's great. We have two receivers in the house, a Hopper 3 and a Joey, and one Walley in the motorhome on a G3 satellite. They combined it all and we pay $7/month for the Walley. The Dish tech went out to motorhome and made sure it all worked properly! WE love the dish format and, so far, it's great. The tech was great and took his time as needed, but worked fast--if that makes any sense. Plus everyone we spoke with at Dish spoke English that we could understand.

This comes after five days of trying to get our Directv off vacation hold, which we do every year. After many, many hours on the phone they sent a tech who was clueless. Then, my husband was on the phone with DTV and the tech was on the phone with someone in his department. I think they knew what to do but didn't want to spend the time. Then, we were on the phone for another five hours with DTV. When my husband was told they needed another 72 hours to figure it out, he cancelled.

I just went through basically the same thing. We have had Direct for 30+ years, essentially from when they started. We got the notice that we had to update to HD receivers because they were no longer broadcasting in SD. Not a big problem, or so I thought. We have a receiver in our KS house, one in our TX house and one in the RV (which is used sporadically). Every tech I talked to gave me a different on whether we could have two permanent locations, what it would cost, and what programming we could get. They had a hard time believing we don't record stuff, don't game, don't need premium movie channels, etc.
But after several hours on the phone with them and with Dish, we are making the switch to Dish. We will see how it goes. But I like the idea of having the RV receiver on or off as we need it for $7 per month.

It has got to the point where Direct has more advertising stations than real programs.

So does DISH. It's a large source of income for both (and Cable and OTA TV, too!)
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

I helped a non tech friend set up his Dish system a few years ago. Had to call Dish for help. Dish lady had no detectable accent. Mid west maybe, I thought. While waiting for receiver and Tailgater to go thru a reset, and having a casual conversation, I ask where she was located. In the Philippines she said. :E Dont think she was a native. But I have never got anyone there I had any problem understanding.

I have been tempted to move away from DTV a number of times over the years just for the savings of creating a new DISH account. However, every time, it comes down to having to deal with the DISH E/W satellite clusters and not having E/W DNS like I do with DTV.
I am surprised more folks don't move to DISH if you are a part timers or a single receiver user. I am neither so it's just not a good option for me.

I believe as long as we don't mention his name 3 times (Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse......) he may stay away and stream to his hearts content.

I did see that before I posted and moved on!:). I would still like TV that can just be "on." I stream some with Amazon Prime and it works great but a lot of us have limited data so to use it for full TV wouldn't work well. I could always upgrade to unlimited data but still....

Now all that needs done is to wait for ole what's his name to show up, and inform you about 172 times in repetitive posts, how both Dish Network and Direct TV are going to be out of business within two years due to streaming LOL.
Too many geezers, self appointed moderators, experts, and disappearing posts for me. Enjoy. How many times can the same thing be rehashed over and over?

You can turn the receiver on and off as many times as you want. There is a 7$ charge per month now for any receiver above the 1st. Establish a MyDISH account online and get the app for your phone and you can turn on and off receivers ( like the Wally when off season and not using) , send a wake up signal to all active receivers that have been offline for awhile etc all from the app.

We had direct in the house for years and dish in the rv. We switched to dish in the house and added our VIP whatever. The installer made me take the box out of the rd to get some numbers off the back and said it would be fine. No signal where it is parked. About a month later we took the MY out and got a signal. Called dish and they sent what ever over the dish and it came right on. Even the hard drive I installed still works without paying the 20 something dollars again.
