Need High Capacity Laptop Battery For Old Gateway

No such luck on Amazon or eBay. Any suggestions? No I do not have $350 dollars to spend on a new laptop only to need to buy an even bigger battery. Thank you.

What age is your laptop and what battery technology?

What is the laptop DC input voltage provided by the original ac supply?

How portable does your laptop need to be?

In the past I used small (output voltage programable) dc-dc converters supplied with different laptop DC plugs that operated off of +12V. That was when the only way I could see my GPS derived position on a map while traveling.

Two suggestiosn. You can likely getp on Black Friday for about $150.00
Batteries Plus.. Though I must say I'm not always happy with the life of their Ray-O-Vac batteries, they do work and I've salvaged some when they fail.

Not sure if they failed because of something Ray-o-Vac did or Dell though.

Low priced batteries are available on ebay, amazon etc. Think $10 to $20.

Take the battery out, and look for the battery model number info. Google that.

Or you can google the Gateway, the computer model number, and battery to figure out the battery model number. Then google that number.

Or give us the computer model number, and a kind soul will help out.

I am on my 3rd or 4th 25$ 9 cell 'high capacity' laptop battery from Amazon.

When they are near useless i have been harvesting the cells, discarding the 1 or 2 which can't maintain voltage overnight, and using them in a flashlight.
The last battery pack, all the cells hold 4.2 volts for weeks, but they are essentially useless as they have so little capacity and cannot support any significant load.

I am back to cycling my panasonic NCR 18650b instead as that Way, I don't waste time swapping out batteries, and have the full brightness levels accessible.

My current laptop battery is about 4 months old and can last about 50 minutes and I am already getting the weak battery shop now for replacement messages.

I like to tinker but I would not attempt replacing the cells myself, not without a spotwelder for the tabs, and likely not even then.

If I could get a battery pack with 9 3400 mah panasonic cells i bet it would last for 5 hours.

A model number of the computer would be helpful. Also model number of the battery.

There are companies that rebuild battery packs.

Why exactly do you think that ??

Compared to 15 years ago, modern laptops have a MUCH longer runtime now.

And if you do find a battery that will fit, the price will either be outrageous because of the scarcity OR it will be used and of unknown quality.

P.S. For many of the old models, NiCad's is all that ever was available and what you see is what you get. Higher capacity internal batteries are just not available.

Try Battery Town. If they don't have it in stock, they'll find one for you.
And BTW, use your car battery. It will last a whole lot longer. 🙂

I' ve had very good luck finding old laptop battery replacements on Amazon. Most standard replacement batteries are actually more capacity than the originals, anyway. Since you provided no battery data info, I can't double check your search.....
