No locals DTV Quartzsite.

I'm in Quartzsite having trouble getting local channels on Directv.

I spent a good 2 hours yesterday with both chat and phone, and they assure me everything is fine on their end. The problem may be on my end as I cannot get any signal on the 99(s) or 103(s) birds, which I understand are the spot beam satellites. I really don't know if that's true. My 'All channels' guide shows me still getting Utah (SLC) locals, which show "771- Signal loss on Satellite in 2." To reach the dish from my RV I have two coax cables joined with one barrel connector, no splitters, Slimline SWM tripod-mounted dish, 101 sat is 95%.

I've refreshed the receiver and rebooted it several times with no luck. I've tried aiming the dish to get a 99(s) signal, but I can't get a peep out of it. Can't say I've ever had this problem where it wasn't DTV's fault because sometimes they don't put their best technicians on at night.

Well, it's got to be better than this! I'm thinking they just don't much care about RVs.

I'm beginning to think the same thing.

I have gotten more competent help during the day rather than evenings. This time was no exception. They kept asking me for my phone number (the one they've had on file for 10 years) so they can use it to sell me stuff. One chat guy said he couldn't change my locals because the address wasn't "registered"... whatever that means. Then he said he'd have to transfer me to a moving specialist (that's a first), who also didn't do what I wanted. Then when the chat was ending with no results, they assured me it would be fixed and gave me this long case number.. none of which means a thing.

I don't know, either they're just incompetent or are trying to discourage RVers from doing this. It's not like I'm abusing their service by asking for it once a week.

Should I ever need this again I will call during a weekday business hours.

Check the title - he has DTV not Dish.

There are definitely spot beams with locals that cover Q. Both LA and Phoenix spot beams cover Q with good signal strength.

And if your implying Q does dot have OTA stations that is likely correct.

I was. and thanks for the support.

After another hour on chat, and changing the service address to Murietta CA, (LA) and nothing working, she "assured" me it would be fixed. Right, I got that story yesterday. She asked if she could help me with anything else.

"Yes", I said. "You've avoided my question about why I'm still getting Utah guide information." After some nonsense replies, she said "let me research that." A couple minutes later and voila, my LA locals are appearing!!!

So, bottom line, I had to hammer on these people for 2 days to get this done. Is this the face of the new AT&T customer service ??
Good job, congratulations. 🙂 This summer I used chat 3 times to change the service address. In all cases the chat person was clueless and I had to insist on being transferred to a manager who made the change. Each chat required north of 1 hour.

I do not recommend DTV chat for service address changes.

I also wondered if part of your DTV issue was related to no Q locals, so you had no locals and also did not have DNS. If there are locals like say Yuma or Lake Havasu City they would not interest me. So I'm happy with the LA or Phoenix locals.

I'm on chat right now trying a Murrieta CA address for LA locals. Nothing is working and I'm not sure the clerk knows what she's doing as she keeps avoiding questions. If I can get LA locals I may never have to do this again as I think that spot beam is quite large.

I also believe you will be able to get the LA channels throughout the USA as I don't think they are on a spot beam since they are part of the DNS package for those of us that subscribe to DNS. Your biggest problem will be if you have equipment failure and need replacement - they will want to send it to your LA address and you will play h*ll explaining why they shouldn't!!! Don't ask how I know!! :B

So glad you got your problem solved!
Yes the LA spot beam is large covering parts of Northern CA, NV and AZ.

The LA spot beam and locals do not include the rest of the US. DNS (Distant Network Services) which includes the LA and NY national programs only and is nation wide. DNS is for mobile and requires documentation, extra charges, etc. And if you live in a area with no locals then DNS is a option as that is the only way you can get the national programs.

With DNS you may/may not be able to get locals for say Chicago. There have been posts on this and other considerations.

Simply changing one's service address online would be much preferred. Probably too much to hope for.

One can change locals with the app if you don’t have a home sat box. Looking forward to that milestone.

You can change locals with chat if you have a home box.

You can reauthorize your boxes from the app.

It’s why I switched to DISH. DISH is WAY more RV friendly.

To be fair, I have had to call twice a few times, over the past few years.

And carrying out the Pathway and turning on the sat box is great.
