Three months after cutting the cord

DW and I have used Cable TV, Satellite TV and even over DSL (Uverse) every service we have used has frustrated us by the amount of money we pay, and the limited number of options that we enjoy. We found that we were watching the majority of our TV from Network TV and the only benefit we really liked was the DVR. So we decided to cut the cord from TV services. So, we ordered a DVR from Amazon and cancelled our TV service. So now, three months later, we are enjoying over the air TV, which is providing a better quality picture than we got through any of our cable or satellite provider.

There is one program that we lost, which was Pit Bulls and Parolees, that one we now watch through Amazon and we pay 2.00 for each episode we want to get caught up on. That is 8.00 a month, whole lot less than 80.00 a month which is what we paid in the past!

We are loving life full timing, and it only gets better and better!

Happy camping!

We recently purchased a home in Verde Valley.
The home is not is a 'hole' and not wanting to go with any cable/satellite provider I figured we would have to install an outside antenna on a pole.

Just as a whim (could always return if it didn't work) I purchased an RCA flat indoor antenna at Walmart.
Just mounts on a wall and connects to TV.

Well I was very surprised........hooked it up, scanned for channels OTA and we get ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, and a few other channels (METV, Movie Channel etc that show old TV series/movies). 16 channels in total.

I put a splitter on the antenna, connected one output to TV closet to antenna and then feed the coax cable in house to other TV at opposite side of house. Works great.

All the TV I care to watch and it's FREE. Antenna was $35 IIRC

thanks,
can you possibly look on it to see if there is an identifying number/name as walmart sells about a half a dozen of them.
thanks

RJXJ - Was looking on GOOGLE and see alot of these DB8 BOW TIE antennas mounted in the attic. They are like 3x4 feet and smaller if you can get away with using half of that size. Most attic are all wood constructed which doesnt attn UHF signals all that bad...

When I first moved here I had a LOWES VHF/UHF long antenna laying in the rafter here at this house and it did real good picking up Washington DC channels 40-50 miles away.

BUMPY - I think everyone else answered your MOVIES question. They all are carrying the ME WE and a host of other CLASSICS channels... Get to watch the real HAWAII 5-0 series haha... Book'em Danny

I will have to learn spanish here to view some of the PBS forein channels coming in. Last time I had my BATWING and KING antenna up making some test I was getting 30-40 channels here of something most all in HDTV format....

I got just the spot on my Ham Radio steel pole mounted on the peak of the north end of the roof here. My BOW TIE will fit first just above the roof line then my ham vertical VHF/UHF antennas above that...

The DB8 will require an amplifier so i will have to run up a 12VDC amplifier control voltage up the RG6 coax just like in the RV trailers.

Have not had cable or satellite for over 6 years. Here is a list of what we watch with HDMI cable to the TV. Netflix,Hulu,YouTube, local TV,and rent movies from Red box. We enjoy Doomsday Preppers on You Tube, and no, I am not a prepper.

speaking of OTA, what is a good reasonably priced OTA antenna to use inside? I am about 40-45 air miles from most stations
thanks,
bumpy

Many broadcasters are putting movies or classic series on their secondary channels.

If you can find a free feed on the internet, a Chromcast device at $35 is a good choice. Just find your feed and cast it to the tv. The tv of course has to have HDMI input but then most sets unless very old will have one. BTW in order to cast you need to use the Chrome browser.:B

I haven't cut the cord yet but I am looking to alternative ways to watch TV. The OTA NATL BROADCAST here in this area gets me all four NATL networks plus PBS, plenty of movie channels, and live radar channels. The big thing for us is all of these TV transmissions we pick up is full screen high definition DIGITAL TV signals.

The beauty of all of this is it is FREE to the public. We are roughly 50 miles outside of Washington DC and Richmond VA transmitting stations. The only way for us to get great coverage was to use the BOW TIE antenna which can be purchased for as little as $60. The one I am using cost $90

The antenna I want play with is the adjustable one where I can move four antenna feeds in their separate directions. The Washington DC transmitters have three networks on one side of DC and the other network on the other side of DC. With a fixed UHF antenna you have to move it to pick up both transmitter site locations. With the adjustable antenna halves you can pick up both transmitter locations without moving the Antenna

I am totally convinced I can cut the CABLE TV cord here and save my $200 a month cable TV cost.

I of course will lose out of a few of the CABLE channels we like to watch like CNN, WX CHANNEL, etc but those can downstreamed on-line if you really really want to view them.

I'm sold
