One of my PC's Automatically installed Windows 10. If you don't want this to happen to you, click the start button and type "windows update" go into the settings and turn automatic updates off. If it does happen to you and you want 7 back, click the start button and then type "restore". It can be brought back to 7 but you may have to reinstall some programs.

It Happened on a PC at my business. The main program we operate on doesn't run on 10, so it was worse! Caused a real problem.

This will not happen on W7 Pro or Win 8 Pro. Are you using Home Edition at work?!

Run Win 10 Pro on several machines. No issues at all. Solid. I also wear my tinfoil hat while working so maybe that helps a little.

Acutally it looks like MS is NOW ignoring businesses and possibly pushing W10 out to "Pro" versions..

Take a look HERE

All it takes is for MS to push it to a companies private WSUS server or the companies IT personnel didn't read up on the update before pushing it to their WSUS server..

If I couldn't push updates my users never would update ๐Ÿ˜‰ Bad enough just to get them to re-boot once in a while.

I hear they may be eventually pushing it my way but we have software that is not yet certified for W10 so we are in a holding pattern.

If your really concerned about W10 calling home there is LOT's of info out there regarding turning off Location Services. It's a solid OS, holding back for that reason is just silly.

Sorry, while MS does give you "slight" control over "location services" in reality they ARE being far more intrusive than what has been revealed.

They are now in the business of selling "information", they do not tell you what "information" they are gathering but they are cashing in on the cash cow and YOU are helping them in many ways.

I am just simply amazed that people now days are so willing to openly give up their privacy.. So willing to allow every nook and cranny of their life and what they do be mined for FREE and someone else makes a huge profit on that data..

That is only ONE reason to "hold back" as you say.

They are also now selling "advertising" spots and pushing that advertising to your PC..

There are a multitude of reasons as to why anyone would want to not participate in this "give away"..

Starting with Win8 and continued with Win10 MS has been chipping away many of the features and compatibility of the OS.. Those features and compatibility MADE MS who they are, it is why 90%+ of the worlds software IS running on a Windows OS around the world..

Now they are telling YOU the owner of the PC exactly what software you can have and run.. And if they push a update to your Win10 PC and it breaks your software, well that is too bad.

Yeah, you could walk into work one day after a botched update is pushed and find ALL of your PCs and even servers nothing but doorstops and MS isn't going to compensate you for the days of work you put into attempting to put the mess back together.

Win10, MS can not only force update your PC, they CAN FORCE REMOVE FEATURES AND PROGRAMS they decide to no longer "support" at any time..

So, if you have a custom program that uses a function or feature that they decided to remove, your software is now dead to the world..

Each OS version, I end up spending weeks if not several months getting the OS to look and act they way I want, not what MS feels I should have.

I also have lots of favorite older software, much of it no longer being developed but yet no real "replacement" for that software.. Often takes a lot of workarounds to use it..

Or the fact that many of the OS versions you end up having to buy "updates" or new software costing you money..

I also don't like being told that I have to purchase new hardware like printers, scanners and such when there is NOTHING WRONG with those items.. I am not in the habit of just throwing money out the door to keep updating just because the latest OS has hit the shelves.

People now days have gotten so used to the throw away mentality, they are instantly willing to throw good working stuff in the trash just so they can have the latest "bling" version.. What a waste.

It was hard enough to get Win7 to recognize one of my laser printers let alone to try to get Win10.. Or even my HP 5100 bed scanner, yeah, built like a tank uses a parallel port and the software that came with it works far better than the built in generic Windows scanner program..

MS is shooting themselves in both feet, they are botching a lot of updates, they are installing very intrusive spying software, they are also installing "p2p file sharing" they are using to help deploy windows updates (using YOUR HARDWARE AND ISP that YOU pay for, not MS).

It better not in my Apple products. Which btw is phone, tablet and lap top. Yes, "I am one of those" people as my Sis said when I ditched MS products. Coincidentally why does everyone from Washington state feel like they went to high school with Bill Gates?

uh i said install. not download, yes it downloads it, it does not install it without agreeing. which is what the op's topic is.

Umm.. no. not correct.

Per MS website HERE you NOW get "Windows 10 Upgrade Scheduling" PUSHED to Win7 and Win8.1 AUTOMATICALLY.

Here is what MS website says in the link above..

"Summary
As we shared in late October on the Windows Blog, we are committed to making it easy for our Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 customers to upgrade to Windows 10.

Windows 10 is our best and most secure operating system ever. Because the free upgrade offer expires later this year, we want to help people get the best ever version of Windows before the promotional offer expires. Users who have chosen to receive recommended updates for Windows may receive a notification that their upgrade is ready to be installed at a scheduled date and time.

To help smooth the transition to Windows 10, there are great support resources for customers available here.

The following screen shot shows an example of the notification that a customer might receive as part of the Get Windows 10 experience.

You choose your experience:

Your Windows 10 upgrade will occur at the scheduled time if you close this window without either selecting Upgrade now or by using the link to change the upgrade schedule or cancel the scheduled upgrade.
If you donโ€™t want to upgrade at this time, select the link to either change the upgrade schedule or cancel the scheduled upgrade.
After you upgrade to Windows 10, you will have 31 days to return to Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 if you prefer your previously installed operating system.

Applies to

Windows 10

Keywords:

KB3095675 "

Please note the two sections I have bolded.

IF you have your PC SET to automatically get RECOMMENDED updates you WILL automatically get KB3095675 which will present a NAG screen (remember MS HAS changed W10 from OPTIONAL TO RECOMMENDED).

IF YOU CLOSE THE NAG SCREEN YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY INSTALL WIN10!

To avoid this you MUST select the link to change the upgrade schedule or CANCEL the upgrade.

This in effect IS MALWARE at it's finest.
