WEATHER UNDERGROUND

Recently Weather Undergrund updated all of their weather programs to a more easier program layout to view the various weather conditions.

I like to use the FULL SCREEN version which only has just a few side bar functions giving me a large view of the area map.
Weather Underground Full Screen version

I use this in conjunction with my OFF-ROAD Emergency Weather monitoring outings here associated with my Ham radio Emergency Radio functions..

having dedicated full screen for weather live radar iew is very important for me to have.

As it turns out now I only get to select certain views like RADAR for instances and can change my view close in and far out and thats about it.

I like to be able to view actual ALERTS generated by the WX FOLKS and also like to see the familar WX symbols like Tornados etc. and other other WX related alert symbols as they popup in my area of view.

I also like to switch to Earth View which displays a nice color map of the area I am viewing as compared to just looking at road map type view...

I don't see anything related to Hurricanes and there resulting tracking strings etc...

I'm sure all of these are still there somewhere but I can't seem to get my FULL SCREEN version to display these anymore... Maybe those alert symbols things engage when they actually happen. I am used to selecting those different kinds of alerts from a side settings screen...

This has made me go look at some of the other oldie type WX programs like Intellicast and WEATHER Channels version and they seem to have gone to this new view format as well... geesch... Intellicast seems to have all the functions I am interested in viewing but it does not have a FULL SCREEN version for me to us. It has all kinds a side function views control panes with the actual area map monitor view maybe half of the page not even centered haha...

Tried to get info from the various programs but you have to join the club and some of this cost money I guess. Maybe that is what has happened to my WEATHER UNDERGROUND. Once I join the club I get to use all those other features I use to get before???

Also maybe Weather Underground is still working on it...

NC SCZ - Thanks for the info...

My Weather Underground maps looks the same as before. I just missing how they was used before including several views like EARTH View...haha

Now that may have been GOOGLE MAPS with radar overlay...

Intellicast uses a different EARTH MAP View. I can't zoom-in as far as I could with the Weather Underground... The Weather Channel WX program looks all the same as before - Never was much of user on the WEATHER CHANNEL WX maps so I don't know if they have dropped any full screen views or not..

I'm gonna wait it all out and see what develops. INTELLICAST will do just fine it seems... I just got real use to using the FULL SCREEN Weather Underground program has in Earth View mode... Thought maybe someone had a work around...

The biggest change was moving from using Google Maps to Mapbox/OpenstreetMap. The Terms of Service for Google Maps is changing. If you used Google Maps on your web site, the number of links you got before you had to pay, changes to a lower number. On a personal web site with a few hundred reads a day it made no difference. Someone like Weather Underground with millions of users per day will be severely impacted. Since, the "WunderMap" changed about 10 days ago, the original features of the application are being restored slowly. It appears that they are using the customer base as beta testers.

Any application that has a Google Map in it will be subject to this. The TOS change was announced but does not become effective for a while yet. So any application that you use with a map could be changing.

I believe the Intellicast full screen weather radar uses a satellite image as the background, rather than a map, so it has not changed.

Intellicast, The Weather Channel, and Weather Underground are all part of 'The Weather Company'. IBM has been owner now for almost a year. That is about long enough for the management to start looking for any similar applications that can be changed, removed or combined.

Rockhill - I can make any of those photos as big as you want...

I'm dealing with a small operations center here with my WX alerts for our area here... It is close to be live radar as the internet will allow=== Probably three to four minutes behind live...

We are manning my computer consoles setup from the inside of my OFF-ROAD trailer... Then we are making reports to the command center or radio nets on WX fronts, Tornados, hail damage, etc... We did this about every three days when we lived in Wichita Falls TX years past haha...

These are all the thing we SKYWARN WX guys do haha...

I'm just trying to make it easier to do and get more involved with the local groups here since I am in retirement mode now...

Like to have the important WX views going to my dedicated 24-inch monitor view allowing me to communicate and run my radio software from the multiple windows on the second 24-inch monitor...

Having a full screen WX Program without having to switch things around really helps out... "Believe me" as Mr Trumper says...

As it is currently going I will have to use something that is best suited for what our group is doing... I had it all on one large view before and then a couple of weeks ago my links got all magically changed on me when I logged in with my saved links haha... I even have a couple of Picture-In-Picture events going as well with the push of a couple of buttons...

Its usually just me and momabear (the cook) and sometimes a little dog sitting in a good spot somewhere passing on information hehe...

I did this as well with the Navy MARS programs when they were still active as well...

Makes for a good excuse to load up the camper will all my radios and antennas and go camping somewhere close by and run off my batteries and my generator for a few days... I have HF, 2M, and 440 units in my setups.

Thanks for you thoughts and inputs...

You have to click on the little pictures midway down on the one that says "Warnings/static cone image" it will fill your screen!

Here's the latest on Fiona.

I'm watching all of these like a hawk and daily! :C

It's the height of hurricane season and I'm waiting on the roofing contractor to get his butt out here and put a badly needed new roof on my winter home in Florida. Before any of these decide to change direction and head closer to Florida!!:B

Joe - I think you are right they are still making changes... I just saw that same popup a few minutes ago...

I was going to login to their home page and let them know what I was looking for but it started asking all kinds of personal questions so I bailed out...

pbitschura - Intellicast does have all the functions available on the view page but when you go out the the full screen you still have one large panel on the right side that gives you a weather view from the exact center of your view screen. I'd like to be able to turn that off if I could...

WXUnderground would let me do that in its previous program.

I am currently using your link now as it gives me most of what was getting before.... I can see the forecasted tracks now of the Tropical Storm brewing up in the Caribbean area. I still have alot of space being used up on the full screen for other things...

I haven't used Intellicast in a long time - It may have a full screen version that I am looking for.

IMHO the only place to track hurricanes is here:
Called the National Hurricane Center. :W

ON my Radio Alert days I am sitting out the woods somewhere with my OFF-ROAD POPUP setup running two 24-inch monitors screen. One is dedicated to WX Map only while the other is running my Radio apps and other on-line functions I use for reference...

Without those full WX functions on screen I have to start looking for them which eats up my time so to speak haha...

I'm sure the functions are still there but I havent found them all oin one place like before...

It was alot easier before...

Just thought someone might know something about the FULL SCREEN version shown above that perhaps I can use some pre-setting perhaps and get something like I use to get...

Still a work-in-progress here

I'm sure they pay for their data for items such as radar. Lower quality let's them pay less.

I used to be able to display temps in both C and F. They took that away a couple of years ago with their "new improved" interface.

Sorry weather underground it is a "fail".
