Web Site Authoring Software

In the past nearly 20 years, I have generated and still run 4 web sites. 3 are for clubs to which we belong (including a Good Sam Chapter) and one for our family.

The software that I have been using is 32 Bit Dreamweaver 3.0 and my host is GoDaddy.

Because this 32 Bit program will apparently not run on my 64 Bit Win 10 computer, I have been running this program on a succession of 4 Win XP and Vista laptops.

Last week, my last Vista machine laptop died. It won't even light up (I suspect a power connector problem).

Can any of you recommend an inexpensive (I do this out of my own pocket) software package that will run on Win 10 and is .html friendly. I do NOT write .html code, but use a graphic (WYSIWYG) interface.

Many of the newer software packages that I have read about are .php based OR require that you choose one of many pre-established, unchangeable, templates.

Thanks in advance. I appreciate your suggestions.

Tim

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the information about Web Site Authoring software. I will try out those that you have suggested. I'm sure that I'll be able to find something suitable.

I was sure that you would come up with something. Thanks.

Close.... The car is a 1959 Austin Healey 100-6 roadster. This is a roadster as the soft top comes off the car and is stored in the trunk. Later Healeys were convertibles and the soft top remained attached to the car and stowed behind the rear "seats".

This car is not your uncle's Austin Healey. I have modified it with a 5 liter Ford V8 engine and 4-speed Automatic Overdrive transmission, among other things.

Other than the seat upholstery and the exhaust system, I have done ALL of the work, (including driveline, interior, body, and paint) myself.

Check it out HERE

Thanks for everything.

Tim

WordPress is great.
But he already has multiple established websites to maintain.
It would be a devil of a time to even try to convert html websites over to WordPress themes.

Expression Web is the equivalent to DreamWeaver for his nees and it's also free.

I worked with Dreamweaver for a short while but could not get used to it. FrontPage, which is now defunct, was okay. But far superior to FP is Expression Web 4, which Microsoft now provides free of charge.

Expression Web has the what you see is what you get mode - which is "selectable". You can do the whole thing in WYSIWYG, or split it with code view, or do it strictly in code view.
You can preview your page in Chrome, FireFox, IE or whatever browser you select. And also run the pages on your localhost via Xampp.
I do everything in PHP now and steer away from using the built-in Microsoft development server - thus use Xampp as a localhost server.
The learning curve, as you might expect with any new software such as this, is steep.

My favorite is called Sublime Text 3 (beta)... You can add version control, code completion, etc. Formatting is nice and it's multiplatform so you're good for Windows, Mac or Linux.

Joe is great too and I'll admit I've used good old nano for more than a few hours

Try Coffee Cup Software, I've used it for years for my train club NOMRE

They run bundled specials every one and a while. Upgrades are usually free!

Wordpress can make a pretty decent website, quickly and usually for FREE, with various themes and addons.

Various hosts offer it as a free addon.
