Which antivirus program?

We have fairly new computers that came with Windows 10. I've been using Webroot, but it's expiring. Does Windows 10 have a good antivirus program that is already installed and does well finding and getting rid of virus and malware?

AVG and Malwarebytes. Don't use the performance junk, only run the web scanning if you are "at risk" (kids, others who don't understand risky sites or are click-happy, LOL)

Be aware that AVG now has a "Deep Scan" which is the original scan. Under the settings gear, choose this initially and at least once a month.

Run both programs' scans once a week, or any time you have something odd, risky, or suspicious occur. MUCH easier to be proactive than to fix it later.

The above two programs (free versions) behave well together. Be sure to remove McAfee, Norton, etc first. MS-Essentials usually gets out of the way on its own, except for a few temporary versions/updates in the past.

I use Avast Free. It's easy to use, updates often, and you can set how you want it to run. Don't click on the extra options, it will take you to the $$$ version.

I also use Malwarebytes Free. It doesn't run automatically, but it is easy to do manually. I do a scan about once a week.

I also use Ad-block Plus. Some sites want you to disable it, because they get their money from ads. That's OK, you can do it when you want. But it takes out a lot of annoying stuff.

The absolute best protection is to be careful where you click. Don't open links, or attachments, that come in email, unless it is from a known address, and something you would expect to get. Type in the address yourself. DO NOT play Facebook games. Don't look at porn. Don't click on any pop-up ads.

I upgraded to a Windows 10 Laptop about a year ago. I've been using free Avast on PCs/Laptops for over 10 years. So the first thing I installed was Avast. From the very beginning Avast was killing my I/O on my HD. Using Task Manager I would see 100% HD usage almost 100% of the time. It would get so bad that the keyboard would just become inop and I couldn't type anything. Performance just plain sucked. I had even considered getting a new laptop.

Finally a few days ago I'd had enough and removed the free Avast an replaced it with Avira. Now my HD disk usage very rarely gets anywhere near the 100%.

It's like I've got a new Laptop, the performance difference is incredible!

My 2 day old HP laptop came with Mcafee 30 day trial preinstalled. I uninstalled it the first day, since I'd already been satisfied with Defender. Never had any issues using it.

Remember, Malwarebytes has both a free and paid version. The paid version works in real time and also works well with Windows Defender. I use the free version, but the paid one is pretty reasonably priced.

I use Fortinet's Forticlient product. It's very robust and it's free. Note that the web filtering is enabled and you'll need to allow certain categories after it's installed. It can be downloaded from www.forticlient.com. I use it for all of my commercial clients as well as my own computers and server.

Malwarebytes doesn't stop viruses. Defender doesn't stop malware.
Lastest tests show Defender is as good as any other antivirus program.
To call Defender "a simple antivirus program" is Extremely misleading and not up to date.

X3 I wouldn't use Windows Defender by itself. Iv'e seen Malwarebytes stop a good deal of stuff that Defender missed. For a good number of years the two top rated antivirus have been BitDefender and Kaspersky, but Windows Defender is much improved over the past decade.
