Heading out of Mass to outer banks. I am close to 95 so I will be taking that down thru CT. After that there seems to be quite a few options, I do have a new Gps (Garmin RV760) which I was going to depend on. However edit is directing me over GWB, most of the post I have read suggest Tappan Zee. Where this is the 1st long trip looking for the easiest, quickest route. Any suggestions?

About 10 years ago, when we lived in NJ, we had a trip scheduled to Cape Cod to visit family that lived in Fall River. A hurricane was forecast for our time there and the campground closed. We still went, but just stayed at our family's house (of course the storm never came). I had been up that there before and thought that the Tappan Zee was so far out of the way, so we just stayed on I-95. I was so glad we didn't have trailer with us. I was very comfortable towing our 19' long HTT, but I would not have enjoyed towing that section of I-95 and going over the top of the GWB.

I agree that I-95 to I-287 over the Tappan Z bridge is your best option.

I would think if the OP is comfortable driving it the GWB may work.

I don't think it's so much the size but the restriction that you have to go over the top of the bridge plus you are stuck on 95. The OP's request is "quickest" and the Tapp does take you out of your way. For some of us it's a much less white-knuckle drive to go that. As far as "quickest" all bets are off. There's no way to tell until you are on your way which is fastest.

I always tell people to take the Tapp., but I believe the OP has a 21' Coachman. To me that isn't much bigger then my truck. I would think if the OP is comfortable driving it the GWB may work. If they are not totally comfortable with it I'd go the Tapp.

I'm with the two above. We've done that run numerous times and 287/Tappan Zee is much less stressful.

I95 to I-287 over the Tappan Zee Bridge. If you follow your GPS and then take 287 for the Tappen See, it will "recalculate" and then after the bridge it will put you back on the route the GPS started with.

I-95 through New Haven is terrible. You should do I95 to I-287 over the Tappan Zee Bridge. I wouldn't take the Cross Bronx Xway or George Washington.

Well since your close to 95, just be real careful and take your time. No need to be in a hurry.

Ty for the quick response. I am on the Ma/Ri border just a few mikes from 95 also. It becomes overwhelming reading all the different directions.

I live 1 mile from I-95. I head up towards Hartford and take I-84 and go to the Tapanzee Bridge. Not sure where you are but might be easier and faster to come across Mass. and than catch I-84.
