Installing wood stove in RV

Has anyone done it. That's right, either install a pellet stove or a real wood stove in their RV, motorcoach or camper to winter over In NE PA, or basically 4 months of freezing hell. There are small units made for tents I see but I don't see why you can't install one of these small natural wood stoves in an RV as long as you keep a window cracked for proper draft and run a a CO detector for safety?. Pellet stoves do need electric to fire tho, and they are very easy to install in a home, they just need a dryer type vent. Firewood burners more elaborate with stovepipe/chimney.

Just like a house install where code requires an inspection for proper clearances. Proper roof termination and back wall heat protection. When we were young we were at a friends parents cottage using a wood burning stove that didn't have the proper wall shielding. We smelled something so started looking around and the attic had a lot of smoke in it. The paneling wasn't burning on the interior side but it was so hot in the wall cavity that it was smoking. We ripped it apart and put it out just in time.

When I built my house I remember it had a special class of pipe which I believe was triple wall with stainless liner? Pricey but house hasn't burned down. I'd be doing the same thing as you if staying long term in very cold weather. I was caught in a cold snap in Colorado in a FW and burned 30 pounds of propane a day plus electric.

Other thoughts....wood takes up a lot of room. I think pellets are better. Takes up less room and you know pellets ready to burn. There are pellet stoves that don't use elec. Augar that feeds pellets works off a spring that you wind up. Can't think of brand name right now.

Absolutely, got a few cords seasoned and protected, just in case, always have to keep ahead of the green smolder garbage!

Definately think more disposable for the RV vs expensive though if you're going to do this. Protect your capital since you're in a bind already.
Better get some dead wood split and put up now though or it'll be tough burnin.

I am interested in this venue because I have had a wood burner in my house for decades and yes even a small BTU stove can cook you right out of it, windows open and it's 90* inside & zero outside, and I only run the fuel oil burner once a week to keep moisture out of the basement & system, so I do have experience with installing and using firewood stoves in a home but it can be messy, but I'm torn between pellet stove and the ease of it, but at $240 a ton vs. free firewood, just have to cut & split & stack, problem my back is shot but would have to carry/ move pellet bags regardless so....

Its doable,Ive seen some house truck on YT once that had wood stove,sorry have no link..
Just make sure the stove gets fresh air from outside somehow,maybe a small opening thru floor below the stove..

I use small Espar diesel in my TC and its darn efficient,,used couple gallons of fuel per week..at - 20..but then I have R-10 insulation everywhere and double pane windows..

As long as properly ventilated....but one issue, just one, and you are dead, dead, dead. Also clean smoke stack at least every other month.

Yes, saw a wood stove installed in about a 24 ft Class C last winter at the University of Alaska in Anchorage.

I had a buddy install a tiny one in his 24(?) foot boat. Made enough heat to drive us out!
