OH...the things you "learn" RVing

Last trip out we stopped by a Walmart to pick up couple things. I parked where other RV were parked and out of the way. One thing I try to do is say "hello" to other RVers when walking by. Passed this one guy and the "hello" turned into a short conversation. He told us about his motorhome, dog, the weather, etc. As I'm leaving I ask where the closet place to dump is.

He tells my wife and I very straight faced that he just finds a railroad crossing and dumps. Just find a street that's not to busy with train tracks and pull the handle. And he goes on to say the trains haul poisons and toxic materials that they are destroying the earth and there is no way that a black tank can be as dangerous as what trains are hauling.

After he explains this I look at wife and she's looking at me. We're both waiting for the rest of the joke. But no, he goes on to explain what a hazardous placard is and how to look for them.

Who would of ever known I've been passing all these dump sites all this time.

My mother lives in Florida so lots of people "visit" her during the winter. 2 years ago a lifelong friend and her husband came to stay with them for a few weeks. This is something they do every other year but this time they came in their RV. When they left, my mother and her husband, noticed that there was a bunch of paper piled up on their lawn. Upon a closer look they saw that the people had dumped their tanks right there on the lawn. When they called the guy to say "what the he!!" he denied it. He said that it must have been there before he pulled in 2 weeks ago.

What a piece of trash the guy is. I hope my mother never lets them stay with them again.

Your kidding right???? The national poop police are going to investigate an internet story, and track this guy down???? You can't even get a felony investigation started on hearsay, let alone a non specific environmental infraction, which in a few jurisdictions may not be any more than a health department violation.

Most likely the guy simply hadn't taken his meds that day. Or for years...
Or he could still be laughing while thinking to himself "that guy actually believed me". :B as they parted company.

He'll quit laughing when he's investigated after someone hears his story and reports him. All they'd need is the plate number off the trailer or tow vehicle..

there are many ordinances against dumping waste. If someone in law enforcement catches him he's likely to get fined!

Of course his analogy goes all wonky once you realize the toxic substances that are being transported don't leave the train. It's not like leakage is allowed or tolerated.

His analogy is DEFINITELY wonky, but not for that reason.

Where I live, toxins from railroads are a huge issue. There are leaks, and there is also the dioxin they sprayed for decades to keep weeds off the tracks, and whatever they are spraying now.

Many years ago, when I used to ride trains, there was a sign in the lavatory that said "DO NOT FLUSH TOILET WITHIN ONE MILE OF STATION!"
I wondered about that until the first time I used the toilet. When I flushed it, I could look right through the valve and see the ground rushing past. It just dumped on the tracks!
Of course, now they have holding tanks. I think...
Maybe that's what this guy was remembering.

Sounds like he's really trying to justify his dirt ball behavior with the toxic materials comparison. I guess he thinks if someone else does something it must be OK. Was he 13 years old?
