Purchasing a new RV

So I am on the verge of purchasing a new (my first new after two used RV's) Denali 261BH. Negotiated price down, and financing is being worked out, when I get a call from the dealer telling me that I need to buy a battery and propane tanks.

So my first question is, are these things typically "add-ons" or are they usually included, and secondly,if I plan on parking at my seasonal site, which has 30amp 110v, do I need to even have a battery?

I do not plan on moving the RV from my site in the near future.

Any words of wisdom are appreciated.

That's a new one on me. Never saw a new trailer that did not come with propane tanks and at least 1 battery. Often, you have to add the second battery, either yourself or via the dealer.

Just got another email from the dealership, they are upping the credit to $500!

So they charged me a line item of $175 for the battery, and then gave me a credit for $175 off the final price. Propane tanks included, but not filled.

Free is as free does.

The factory should ship it with empty LP tanks and no battery. Some dealers include the cost of filling the tanks and a battery and some don't. Either way you usually end up paying for it as it adds to the dealer's cost of the unit and they will surely pass it on. Some quote without it included to entice people with a lower price. Then tack it on in the end.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I will update later today with the fall-out/resolution.

Last trailer did not include the battery. It did include full propane tanks. Since I got a good price and I did not talk about batteries until I picked the camper up I did not object to the purchase price for the battery and box and install price that was given. Price $50. If I had been thinking I would have made sure it was included.

tanks should be included and at least ONE battery. every one we have bought was delivered with full propane tanks. Tell the dealer...no games...include full propane tanks (30#) and one battery. if he balks, walk out on the deal.

ours had the tanks but we had to pay for the battery.
the tanks come from the factory, unless the dealer is talking about filling the tanks for a price.

Welcome to the forum.

You're not finished negotiating the price. I would tell the dealer you thought that was standard equipment, not extras.

If this is the service you are getting before the sale, think about how you may be treated after you make the purchase. JMO

Interesting that they would even go there. I looked at the Denali website link and when I click on the appliances tab it lists 30 lb bottles (plural) with abs cover.
I would tell them that you expect the bottles filled and a battery be provided so the emergency breakaway switch works and you're not going to pay anything extra.

You though you negotiated a good price. If you don't have a battery your break away won't but on the brakes and the law says you need that most everywhere.

Never purchased an RV that didn't come with propane cylinders (tanks are permanently mounted in MHs etc.) and at least 1 battery.

Yes..modern converters can function/operate ALL 12V DC items without a battery but best to have a battery for:
*12V DC power to trailer brakes should 'emergency brake cable/pin' get pulled (illegal to tow without properly equipped)
*Battery helps provide 'load buffer' for converter

"Hey dealer.......2 propane cylinders FULL and 1 battery"
Is it time for your medication or mine?
