Aftermarket TV Wheels

Sorry for yet another unusual question, been doing a ton of brainstorming leading up to our walk through on our new camper.

I put a set of XD monster wheels on my truck last year. My tires are rated for 3700# and some change, however i was doing a search, and it looks like the wheels are only rated at 2200.

I'll be approaching 2200 quickly. Not knowing much about wheels and tires, is this a legitimate concern?

I still have the stock set in my possession, but am running out of time, as we are taking delivery wednesday, and then leaving for 2 weeks friday.

I see now that they do make this wheel with a 3200# load rating, maybe they matched the correctly.

Any clue if a wheel contains a visible part number?

NVM. i see now that all the wheels with an 8 bolt pattern are rated at 3200.

thanks.

Most are marked, but have been corrected by capri that it is NOT mandated
by DOT like I thought

Some are painted, some are embossed, some on the back side, some are
on the portion covered by the tire, etc

3200# is still 500# lower than tire rating....wrong wheels

What is the axle rated for ? If it's a 6K axle then the wheels are the not the weak link in the chain, the axle is.

If it is an 8-lug rim, this is most likely a 3/4t or 1t truck. These trucks have axles that are rated around 10,000 lbs from the supplier and derated by the vehicle manufacturer for the application (vehicle class).

BTW: I had a F250 with the 9750 lb Sterling 10.5" axle. I ran 4500 lb Vision Heavy Hauler rims with 4800 lb LRH 14PR tires. The weak link in my setup was the rims which gave me a 9000 lb rear axle rating. Typical rear axle weight for me was 7000-8000 lbs which push the limits of 3650 lb OEM rims and tires too much.

I have cracked two aluminum wheels due to overloading. One of them cracked between each of the lug holes, the other cracked near the valve stem. I took those off and replaced them with OEM Chevy wheels (machined to fit my Ford).

Personally, you are better off sticking to the OEM wheel and tire size.

I ran into the sane issues when going from 17" to 18" tires this year. I was looking at 18" rims at Discount tire and the guy doing the research actually called the manufacturer of the rims I was interested in. Ironically one set that was rated high enough was not recommended according to that manufacture since I was towng a 5th wheel. It took awhile to find the set I needed that had the right weight ratings. I too found lots of cool looking rims with 2200-2500lb ratings even though they had 8 lugs which according to Les Schwab was all you needed to worry about. Pays to shop around.

Wheels need to have a higher rating than the tires.

That's why the wheels have ratings.........

Those tires should never have been matched with those wheels. Very misleading cause one can easily check tire rating (on sidewall) but not when it come to wheels (hidden)

You need wheels that match or exceed tire ratings.

All show but NO GO!
