Air Force One Braking System

Any comments on the Air Force One supplemental braking system. Our new to us coach has air brakes and we are towing a Mercury Mariner Hybrid. Our current Blue Ox Patriot system has been not working more than it has worked and we want to replace it. Any other suggestions? A Brake Buddy Stealth system is another unit we are looking at. One advantage with the Brake Buddy is local installation is available at a couple of RV shops that we trust.

I have done a forum search on the AFO and read all the comments. Just looking for some more insight on the two systems.

Thanks for any help!

We are very happy with our Air Force One. I did the install myself. It was not too difficult but having a pit to work under the motorhome was a benefit when hooking up the air line to the brakes. I like the easy hook up (i.e., connect the air hose and safety cable, then go.)

Thank you for all of your comments. As far as our old Patriot system goes it is about 6 years old and because of the configuration of the dash it is difficult to get it aligned properly to have it work. The factory trained installer has checked it out and he can no longer get it correctly positioned to work. Definitely time for a replacement and another set-up like the Patriot is not going to work. We have an appointment on the 17th to have an Air Force One installed on our hybrid Mariner and on the motorhome. Sounds like it will be easy to hook up once installed.

Again thank you for your comments and suggestions!

AFO is one of the truly proportional braking systems for a TOAD. You will get exactly the same braking on the TOAD as your MH. While it's a bit more involved to install the MH end of the system it's well worth the $.

After I fried my 5 year old brake buddy I went with the Air Force One - when I occasionally have to stop in a hurry it stops great with no squealing of the tires

As others have said the hook up is very easy

Wish I had upgraded sooner -

cost was 1974.00 installed (car and Motor home) June 2014 here in Minneapolis

I have SMI unit in the towed we are non-air brakes. System works off brake light activation and has worked well for us. If you have air brakes and depending on the towd this may work for you better than trying to hook up an air line system.

We are very satisfied with our AFO system. Not much else to say. Hook up the air line and breakaway cable and away we go.

I would make an effort to make the Patriot system work properly. I use one and it is fine.

If I were to go with an SMI product I would try the Delta Force unit. It is very similar to the Blue Ox Patriot. Just a matter of taking one out and putting the other in.

We don't have the Air Force One on our Class C, instead have the StayNPlay since we don't have air brakes. It is made by the same company, and is trouble free and very good, I think you will find Air Force One to be a fine braking system.
