Is an air fryer a good appliance to have in an RV?

Fryed air... Who woulda thought? :R

We had one at home for a while. It was kinda fun at first but the thrill didn't last long. Maybe a year at most and we both lost interest in it. I think DW got more of a thrill out of it selling it on FB bidding wars. ๐Ÿ™‚

If you want it for doing fries, gotta do them in oil in a pot, which I have done a few times while camping. Mmmmm.

Had a George Foreman grill years ago that MIL thought we REALLY needed. Just sat there, and sat there, and... Some things you can just do without.

Due to the general lack of space on an RV I believe an air fryer has too few applications to justify one..

Ollie's (Good Stuff Cheap) has one on sale just now. I have looked at it longingly but.. I second what you say and I don't fry that often.

So. I left it in the store.

I did, however, pick up a Chefman Electric Pressure Cooker (instant pot knock off) love that puppy in fact when Next I cook dinner (I only cook about once a week rest of the time I eat leftovers) that's the cooker.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

I was given an air fryer for xmas a year ago. Once I started using it at home, I got the hang of it. Last summer I took it on our 4 month RV trip and used it several times a week. Just got back from a 6 week trip and forgot to take the fryer. I missed it as it does give you additional options for cooking. Yes, it takes room, but I have a 1/2 bay dedicated to cooking 'stuff' like my grill, induction plate, slow cooker, sous vide setup along with other goodies. Adding the airfryer was a no brainer for me.

I bought a cheap Air Fryer that even has mechanical timer. I use the stove timer for events.

The dang thing does make good fries. I like that. What sold me on it was when I went to reheat a medium rare roast. I wrapped it in aluminum foil. And experimented with a high temperature. It came out great. Hot and not cooked like in a microwave. Just perfect medium rare. That was a surprise and a big selling point for me.

Tried Costco Calamari in it and was a hit at Christmas, Bacon wrapped water chestnut or scallops are fast cooking and simple to make. Frozen anything like fishsticks are great.

I have even done several flat iron stakes that turned out great.

My fryer is going into the camper oven for storage on the road. The thing is a convection oven on steroids. It just takes less time to get what you want

Clean up is just a wash down of the cooking an and the holding pan. Grease is minimal even when cooking a steake.

+1 and it's less heat than using an oven. Living in the SW cutting heats a necessity.

Yes, DW just got one for Christmas, takes up a lot of space, not something we'll be taking in the RV, she's also doing a lot of experimentation, (trial & error) but she's getting the hang of it.
Uses virtually no oil to cook with, if that's important to your diet, otherwise, I could get along without it.

We use both the air fryer and induction at home and in the RV. Saves on the propane and heating up the RV in summer.

I bought one during an online black friday sale for the sticks and bricks house, and find myself using it all the time now, so I am strongly considering getting another better one and relegating the current one to the RV. The biggest problem with the mid priced one I bought is limited portion size, generally big enough portions for 1 or 2 people, but that is it, as things don't come out well if it is overloaded.

Having said that my reasoning may not hold true for everyone else, I had extensive abdominal surgery which included gallbladder and bile duct removal in 2011, and have not been able to tolerate much fried food since. For the first couple of years after the surgery I was at about a 3 french fry limit before gastric issues would occur, now I am somewhat better, but not much.

Now with the air fryer I can again eat a normal size portion of french fries, that actually taste close to regular fried french fries thanks to a very light spray of olive oil, not like dry oven bake "fries", the same holds true to chicken strips, onion rings, and lots of other types of food I had almost decided I would never eat again. So perhaps not the healthiest cooking appliance I have ever bought....

I enjoy using an air frier, but they do take up a large amount of space!
