B&W 5th Wheel Companion on a Plastic Bedliner

I have an 04.5 2500HD, LLY, crewcab, 4x4, shortbed truck. I just recently installed the B&W combination gooseneck hitch/5th wheel companion hitch. My truck has a plastic drop in bedliner and the 5th wheel hitch sits on top of the bedliner. My question is this....does anyone have any experience with doing this? Or know of someone who has? Will it be a be a problem? Thanks.

Friend of mind installed a 5th wheel hitch years ago in a truck for someone who had a drop in liner. I recall him adding some kind of metal round bars to go into the recess or lower portions of bed floor to take up the gap under the liner.

I am suprised any one would still use a drop in, with the quality and strength of sprayed in liners! The one in our 2001 Ram is now about 17 year old and still in great shape!

Placing any part of the hitch base on top of a plastic bed liner is not recommended by B&W. They say to cut the bed liner enough to allow the base to set on the actual bed. I"m sure some have put it on top anyway, but I don't know anyone that has.

I had Linex qnd a tool box in my 09 F350 with my B&W companion hitch and decided to get a tonneau cover for my 17 F350. I have the oem plastic bed liner and had to cut out the liner under the rails. Scored the plastic then pulled the hitch and used a Stanley hook blade to cut along the score lines. Renistalled and retightened the hitch and good to go.
