Biggest issue about keeping TT at home

Was getting breakfast and the Waitress asked, Are you not going camping this weekend? Living in a small town every one knows what your doing. She knew we were not ging because of where in my yard the TT was sitting. Everyone in town knows when we are gone because the TT is gone. Including the bad ones.

Am I complaining? No. But it is something to think about. I have also found out. My neighbors watch my house more when the Tt is gone as well.

Shoot, even bringing the trailer from storage to the house to load sends a signal to criminals. That is why we like to load up at the storage lot.

I am paranoid tho. ...so... probably over worried.

Like waterbug, I can't be seen from the road. We've got 1,000 ft of driveway up and over a hill and through the woods. When we first moved out here we were a bit jumpy. But we quickly came to love it and realize that not being seen is, in most cases, safer. If you don't know us, you don't know we're here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Not allowed to park at home, yard or driveway where I live either. It does make you wonder!

Move to a big city then. We park the TT in an RV driveway next to the house. We live in a great neighborhood, and our immediate neighbors do look out for us, but at the same time, in general our neighbors aren't particularly nosy. That seems to be a factor of larger cities, don't know why, just is.

I grew up in a small town, and it was a good place to grow up, but as an adult, I wouldn't want to live in a small town. I prefer the annonymity of a big city, even though the most interesting things we do are go to church, and go camping, LOL.

I always get a kick out of the young guy next door when he sees the fifth wheel in front, he'll say "ah takin' the motorhome out again!"

We all watch out for each other here since there has been so many home burglaries and car break-ins on our street this past year.

When I bought my TC, friends would ask if I was going camping. Told them no this just makes the truck easier to find in the parking lot. Later in the fall someone ask if I was going camping. I said no I was told to put some wait in the back of the truck for traction in the snow, plus it still makes it easy to find in the parking lot. If they ask again I'll tell them I have EBS and I brought my own bathroom with me.

I have nothing to steal at my house. If the do break in maybe the police will come over and dust for me.

We always keep 2-3 RV's on our main home property and a few boats also. They are all behind and near the finished pole building (my toy barn) as my wife calls it. That is all but the Lance TC when it's on the truck as it sits on one side of our wide main driveway. The other driveway on the other side goes back thru the gate to the toy barn. From the road, you can't see that much behind the home because of the trees and rolling ground. Our neighbors are terrific as they watch if vehicles stop and the entire area behind the home is chainlink fenced in and has gates with locks and cables when we are gone overnight. Our daughter also checks every couple days. There's also several video cams that are motion activated with recorders and sodium yard lights plus motion activated instant on lights. Any motion within 30 feet of the home and 12 feet down to the ground turns on the front cam system and 3 instant on bright lights. We are gone RV'ing or boating a lot and would much rather not have to worry about who's on our property. A very safe area but in today's drug infested lazy world theives, who knows! We know if anyones been near our home and there's a backup power system should the power plant grid go down. Really didn't cost that much to install and only uses miniscule current when the system isn't motion activated. Haven't had any problems yet and it's been almost 8 years with the system in. Lowered our home insurance premiums enough to pay for any electricity used per year as it also senses smoke, heat, or flames.

We have a ours next to the driveway and I like being able to go open the slides and awning after a rain. Run a/c and fridge on weekends to make sure it's working and have a guest house. Bad part is you see the TT more than the house through the trees.

My daughter and her husband stopped at our house to check things out while we were gone. Two neighbors came over to see who it was and the police car stopped. Shopping Guide picked up and lawn mowed.
Really small town.

Small town? Let me tell you what a small town is. When DW and I got married, and moved to Maiden, which is where she is from. I lived in another town. Her Uncle that lived out of town sent us a card. It was simply addressed Shay Roberts and husband. No street number, no house number, no nothing, just that. Remember HER maiden name was Roberts. Mine is not. Anyway. We got the card. Came straight to our new house that we had only lived in for a couple weeks. Boys, and girls. That's a small town.

We live in a semi rural area, lots of houses, but not housing developments. We have an older black gentleman with a heart of gold living across the road from us with his lawnmower junk yard. While "Pops" is a great guy that will give you his last dollar, his junkyard dog prowls an area about 4 houses out in all directions, about a 1/2 mile area. This mutt knows what cars and trucks belong in what driveway and who is a stranger. Its funny watching him make his rounds, going up on each porch, sniffing around side doors, etc. Never bothers other animals, but a delivery driver catches h@** opening his door to drop off a package.

You can't see my home or TT from the road, so nobody knows if we are here or not. I don't have to move my TT to be able to sit on my front porch with a beer and a 12 guage. ๐Ÿ™‚

This thread is funny! My wife and I are constantly getting asked where we went camping last weekend. Everybody knows when we're gone. While I do like the idea that so many are watching our house, I do have to wonder if they'd actually take action if something suspicious was going on while the trailer was away. I willing to bet few would investigate further if push came to shove.

Chuck&Gail,

That's funny and similar to what happened here mildly with the 2010 census taker. We have 2 addresses on the same street within 1/10 of a mile and this guy was roaming around on one side of the property. My wife came up behind him (unarmed) and loudly said "What are you looking for"! After he came back down to earth and scraped his leg, he nervously said "I'm a census taker and where is that other home on this property addresses"? After an explanation, he laughed too but kept looking back at my wife to see if she was following him on his way back to his car. Never seen him or his car again!
