Camping World RV Service:Good or Bad?

Has anyone had any experience with service and repairs at Camping World? Their technical knowledge may be there but are they responsive to your needs? Do they keep you updated as to when parts are coming in? If they have been ordered? When can you expect service to be done? If you leave a message do they call you back that same day? Do you have to ask to speak to a Supervisor? Are Florida stores good compared to others? Do the service advisors realize you live in another town far away and you need info on your pending service in order to schedule the time to take in your rv?

I bought a new toy hauler from CW of FT. Meyers in January. I negotiated having slide covers installed in the deal. The day before delivery they called and asked about color. The next day when I got there they were not installed as they claimed they had to order hardware and would come to the campground we were staying at to install. Two weeks later I called on status and they told me it hadn't come in yet because it takes 7 to 10 days. A week later I called again. Had to make several calls because the service advisor would not return calls. Had to get my salesman involved. After many promises finally got installed in March. Had an issue with the 6 point leveler system when I first set the unit up. Auto level did not make the unit level. I called CW Service and they told me to call the manufacturer because they really did not know that much about them. When I picked the unit up, orientation was terrible. The guy doing it did not know much about the unit and didn't cover many items. We were on our own. When I hooked up to leave it squatted out my suspension so the next day I went back to see about having air bags installed. They didn't have them in stock and said they would have to order them. I told them to do so. I followed up a week later and they said "oh, we didn't know you wanted them, we will order them now. We will call when they come in." I called a week later to inquire about status and they had no record of me ordering but said they had some in and made an appointment to install. They scheduled me for 1st thing in AM since I would be waiting. They said I would be first in line that day. I got there when they opened. They told several others to come in at the same time. They told me it would be a two hour job and they would page me when it was done. Three hours later I checked and it wasn't done. Same thing at 4hours later and they said it would be another hour. A half hour later I went out for a smoke and saw my truck setting in the parking lot. The service advisor went to lunch and they don't have a process in place for the other service advisors to cover. They just let you sit. Over all I would say CW of Ft. Meyers could use some customer service training.

The few times I've used the nearest CW in Rogers, MN I've had good service.

I've had bad service several times - twice in St Augustine and twice in Texas. Although once in Texas (different CW) I got great service in an emergency. But any time I post bad service (which outnumbers the good buy four to one) , it's gets deleted. SO, I don't post details anymore. I don't go to CW for service anymore, ever. But, this one will get deleted too, and will leave only the positive posts. That's why the rating is so high about CW service, only the positive posts stay here.

My thoughts, mostly bad service is poor staff training. Maybe that's changed since Marcus took over, but I'm unwilling to test that theory. And even if better training comes in play, takes a looooooong time to train that many. Not like 'speak' and overnight the poor training disappears - takes much longer, and needs consistency in staff learning and management oversight.

Don't know how long this post will last... but, ya know, you asked.

I don't think that I have ever had any problems with bad service at a CW store, especially the service I have gotten at the Tacoma store with a couple of warranty problems. Last year I had to have an A/C shroud replaced on my Tradewinds that had blown off somewhere on our trip down to Oceanside. We discovered it when the water came in during a rainstorm there. I called Vista CW and asked if they had a shroud and if they could install it and was told to bring it right in. I got there, the tech wheeled their tall platform in place, cleaned up the parts that were still there and got the new one installed right now. After he was finished,he told me that he had taped off the wires for the solar panel that had been on top of the shroud when it left and would have replaced it for me if they had had one like it in stock, if I had wanted it.
That's what I call service.

i have had mostly good experience with them. i would hate to lose them as the alternative of smaller shops or waiting for shipments from online orders is not satisfactory as if i need it i want it now.

As with all franchise, or any business for that matter, there are good and bad.
The sad part is a bad experience at one is all too often used as an excuse to label all.

There are some very, very good CW stores, and then there are the CW stores that seem to enjoy the ire of members of this forum. I am leaning towards the opinion that many of the less well run CW stores also sell RVs - as if the RV sales is a red flag.

Very few CW dealerships are equiped to do chassis work.

X2 as well. I was told this by my favorite CW store. For a service dept to know their own limitations and be forthright in acknowledging it - earns my respect.

as noted by others, we have received both good and not so good treatment/service at different Camping World stores .... it should be noted that the good work was done prior to their current leadership taking over .... there are two Camping Worlds in Myrtle Beach, the oldest is on HWY 501 .... back in '06 we spent thousands of dollars there and they did very good job installing our roof dome satellite dish .... in '03/'04 we even bought a Porta Bote there .... a little over a year ago we were camping at Ocean Lakes and needed some service so I took it to their facility just off of HWY 544 (Duck Pond Road) .... the reception we got there was such that we drove off and haven't been back .... if we need something while traveling we still stop by their stores .... if we need service while traveling I ask folks in the CG where we happen to be and follow their recommendation

Had a WDH put on at the Myrtle Beach CW on 544. We had the worst customer service and the worst ride home. Took it to our local CW that is just 8 miles down the road in Statesville (NC) to have them look at it. They had to get authorization first to do the work or something (didn't understand that part), and had trouble getting someone to answer the phone in MB. They sent a technician out to look at it and he took one look and knew what the issue was. They placed the chain on the wrong link. He readjusted it and told me to give it a try. Worked great. Then when we needed some warranty work done before the end of the year, we took it back to the Statesville store (where we bought it). They were great. They called to let me know what the issue was with the radio not working and that they got authorization to replace some drawer slides from the manufacturer. The service manager called me to tell me that they had the radio working and he went to test it himself and it stopped while he was checking it and that he ordered a new radio. He kept us up to date on every thing. And the service was done to satisfaction.

Camping World is no different in their quality of service than any other repair facility. Some locations are good, some are better, some are not so good. Its a toss-up. Each location has a different level of acceptable performance. Usually governed by the quality of the tech and the pride of the Service Manager....or lack of.

I ordered HWH Levelers, a satellite dome and a rear view camera almost immediately after I bought my new "C". Didn't know enough to order the RV with them already installed. I ordered thru the Bowling Green, KY. CW on the advice of my dealer. They had everything in stock, so I made an appointment.
I showed up an hour late because Bowling Green is an hour earlier than Cincinnati. They had me hop out because they had the lift ready. I stayed overnight in a motel and when I returned the next morning, it was all done and ready to drive away. Paperwork was all done, so I wrote the check and hit the road. Don't know how it could have been much better unless it was free. 🙂
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.
