Can You Pass Through States with Stay at Home Orders?

We are thinking of heading to our boat for the summer in the epicenter of the virus. Taking it away from there and quarantining ourselves on it for the summer.

We are in Florida and are looking at going to NYC.

Delaware, for example, has a stay at home order.

Can we drive through Delaware then store the RV in NJ or should we expect to be stopped? I don't understand how this all works for travelers as it's all worded to people living in houses.

I wouldnt travel anywhere unless absolutely needed.that said

If Your RV is your home you wont be breaking any laws imo, worst they can order you stay in your home RV for 14 days if tested positive.

Ive heard trucker on radio saying many truck stop restaurants are closed so you should have enough food w you.

Also US Canada border is closed to non esential travel

Virus from infected people is spread mostly thru air coughin sneezing up to 3 meters distance
Simply wearing protective face mask like doctors do would PREVENT many infections

Most important Everyone should learn how to use it safely

https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public/when-and-how-to-us...

In China everyone must wear mask when outside and life goes on just fine
Maybe all countries should do the same.

Our RV is our home, but we are slowly heading north to our upstate NY family cottage where we'll hunker down for awhile until things settle down. We're currently near Savannah, GA and are not concerned at all about passing through the seven states we'll traverse on our way to NY from Florida. Since we'll be calling the cottage "home" for this purpose, if asked, we'll just say we can't obey a stay home order until we get home.

This is why so many people are going to die unnecessarily in the US. We've been raised all our lives to think that our country is the exception to everything, and that we as individuals are exceptions to every rule.

We haven't had any face to face interaction with another human in over a week. Our brief stops have been handled with online reservations and phone check ins. I rarely leave the motorhome except to hookup and refuel, both with appropriate protections. My wife hasn't been outside for more a few minutes in that time. We left Georgia yesterday when no "stay at home" order was in place and are currently in South Carolina where no order is in place, and tomorrow will be crossing North Carolina non-stop into Virginia where there's also "no stay at home" order. So please tell me just which rules are we breaking? And just how are we killing anyone?

I have no knowledge about other areas closing their areas to the traveling public BUT last Tuesday here in my county the officials closed our county to all outsiders from entering OR passing through. They have check points set up on all the highways leading into the county.

Seeing as how there are thousands of counties, cities, towns, etc. it may be possible that others have restricted their areas to all public travel from outsiders also. This would be the only concern I would have at the present if using due diligence to follow CDCs recommendations to avoid contact with other people and protect oneself from possible contamination by using hand protection, refusing to touch face and wash hands before and after touching surfaces to prevent spreading any virus and wearing a mast if coughing or sneezing.

Trucks stops and gas stations are necessary businesses and I would not be concerned about finding fuel. I always work of the top half of a tank so that allows plenty room to find fuel. If your boat is your home and you were not able to drive there what would be the prospect of hiring someone from Florida to deliver you by water in their boat?

Thanks for that info. Certainly would be crazy to be going down 95 in NC and have a roadblock. I'm assuming they didn't cut off the interstate?

Boats aren't like RVs. The fastest ones move about the speed of a bicycle. Lol. It's not as simple as just getting a ride up. Going without stopping to sleep, 24 hours a day, could take 12 days in each direction. And that's not even possible.

Doctor "Alice" in our park announced last Wednesday that the hoax would be over in a week. Can't wait until tomorrow when we can get all "our workers" back to work and the market back on course for 30,000. Happy days are here again!

Sorry to those who can't take some humor. This virus has scared far too many people (snowflakes?). Were you all this scared in 2009 when the H1N1 killed 12,468 people in the US and there were 60 million reported cases? As I recall nothing much happened during that pandemic, no panic, no empty store shelves, no stay at home orders, no closed businesses, no nothing. Yet this new virus comes along, which isn't a fraction as deadly as the H1N1 and everyone is losing their minds. Maybe we've gotten too soft.

At this point, if you don't understand the difference between H1N1 or the reasoning behind the current shut down. I won't waste my time trying to explain.
You can just continue with your comedy routine.

No, I think the boomers are the ones most scared with this one. And for good reason it appears. All those people getting knocked off by it in the nursing homes up here don't help matters though.
I'm not a smart enough person to argue the difference between this and H1N1 or any other pandemic, so maybe the abundance of caution is warranted. But I also partly agree with your last statement.

That's the kicker though. Once you're 70-80-90 years old, something is gonna getcha. If you dodge all the bullets and die of "natural causes", whatever that means, you apparently beat the odds.

I look at it different, considering my otherwise healthy lifestyle parents only made it to 59 and 69 years old. My wife, somehow beat stage IV Hodgkins when she was 16 and the after affects of that have taken 30 years out of the last 10 years of her life.
IMO, if you're 80 and the flu gets you, it was time.

My doctor today strongly disagrees with you. We went in for our semi-annual checkup in a northeast Dallas suburb this morning.

He is a staunch right wing supporter of the Republicans, Trump and Gregg Abbot (TX Governor).

He was ranting about TX Lt Gov Dan Patrick's statements yesterday that the country needs to get back to work, and that we can live with an increased infection and death rate rather than damage the economy.

Dr was very emphatic that no one has a good idea what this really is yet. How to stop it, and that this is spreading much faster and worse than anything the US has ever seen. On the eventual sickness and effect, he says he sees nothing that would stop this short of 50,000 deaths, minimum. Would nto be surprised to see five to ten times that if we stop our efforts to minimize contact.

This is a guy who thinks Trump is god and Pelosi the devil.

When we arrived, one window at the office (a stand alone building) was open. They took our names and told us to wait in our vehicle until we got a text. Took us straight into a checkup room. We were not allowed to be in the hallway when another patient was there. Diabetes tests, urine samples, blood work, we were escorted from one to the next.

Very strange. And they only see 'wellness' checks in the morning. Anyone with any problems is seen in the afternoon, and more isolation.

So far they have seen no COVID-19 cases. Three patients asked to be checked for the virus, and were referred to Dallas County Health Department.

Saturday, we visited daughter and her family after winter in the RGV. Three of her four children, one boyfriend and her husband. Eight in all. It is almost #2 grandson's 18th birthday, a small party.

Today after Dr, we stopped by for 10-15 minutes to drop off something we picked up in Mexico for her, but forgot to bring Saturday.

About two hours later, she sent us a text. She worked in a large building last week. Work from home started yesterday.

She has been informed that someone on her floor in the building has tested positive for COVID-19. She, and everyone she has been in contact with since the middle of last week needs to go into 14-days self-quarantine.

Most concerned about her almost 24 year old daughter who is 5 months pregnant with my first great granddaughter. So far this has been rougher on pregnant women than any group, even us old farts.

On the OP and the original topic. I've seen nothing about stopping truckers traveling normal routes and such in states with lock down orders.

But I would say an internet forum is one of the worst places to try to get accurate policy information. (Facebook is worse).

Policies are changing daily, hourly in some cases.

In about two weeks, there will be some clarity to the situation. Unless you have to move right now, try to stay put.

If you have to go now, call the state police and ask them what is the rule in their state for through travelers.

A hint that I read: when pumping gas, use dog poop bags over your hand! Much cheaper than gloves and easily disposed-of.
Finally, some really useful information.

Thank you for this tip, seriously! A friend gave me a few pairs of disposable gloves but they are a PITA to put on and getting them off leads to more touching of skin. Poop bags are perfect because they provide great protection (as any dog owner knows) and yet can easily slip on and then off into a trash can. Plus I have 100 rolls that are easy to carry!

There is always one scumbag who wants to spread rumors and lies and upset others. I should probably use a more correct internet term: "troll".

This is just disgusting when people are panicky, upset and trying to decide what they should or can do.
