What do people treat the decals on their RV so that they won't fade.

If a replacement decal, without removal of the old or application of new, is around the $150 mark one might consider custom.

I am still not set on which photograph, taken myself, to use but real soon my 5er will have a one of a kind look with something like this.

I saw some replica decals (I'm told the manufacturers don't make them anymore for my outback trailer) on eBay that look pretty **** good for a reasonable price. For a replacement decal for my front cap it was around $135. Problem is trying to find someone to replace it. You could try looking there. They had replacement decals for a wide range of trailers for both cap and sides. They were all reasonably priced.

Try going directly to the factory customer service dept. A lot of dealers don't want to mess with it and will overcharge the daylights out of you. An eraser wheel used for removing automotive pinstripes and so on will work well for removing them.

If we want to replace them, is there a source for quality RV decals?

Aerospace 303 did not help ours much. They are not cracked but very discolored. We used it frequently to no avail. We have tried numerous products on the decals trying to get them to look better. I think painting or replacing will be our only solution.

Unless you can keep it out of the sun (ie: in a pole barn or under a cover), not much you can do.

I wouldn't count on miracle sprays or "marine" grade (we have a boat and at 10yrs, they start to go too).

If you are going to keep the rig for 15-20yrs, just plan on having them replaced at 7-10yrs. You don't have to match the original but I would avoid wacky designs if you are thinking about resale (or at 15-20yrs the value won't be much so have at it).

I would lean away from an all white trailer. FEMA orders trailers for emergencies and they typically come without stickers, so if your trailer doesn't have them they look like a FEMA trailer.

Mine never faded.. They just peeled away. They where on the front, where the sun hits the most while parked at home, so just finally took them off.

The sides and the back are still okay.

I figure eventually, I'll just have a completely white TT once all the decals go.. No worries about it.. As long as it's still functional, that's what matters to me most.

Frequent applications of products like 303 help a great deal. Also starting with good quality decal material helps. Generally the stuff the RV industry uses is pretty cheap. Nowhere near as good as commonly used in the marine industry which is expected to stand up to years of sun & salt.

My front cap decals are now 9 years old. Not bad I guess. Indoor winter storage as well as regular care has helped but the time has come for replacement. In 2 weeks we are getting a custom decal made from a photograph I took. We will be one of a kind. Ballpark quote was $250.
