Direc tv antenna

Today i found what i was looking for while on a trip to the land-field. After a few minutes of convincing the attendant, i was able to pull this out of the blue metal box.

I already have an extra satellite box in the attic and plenty of wire.

I am building a base out of pvc pipes unless i come across a tripod, :B just direct me where is a road construction :C

For the questions; need to know if one of you guys is using this antenna or similar and how many cables you are using with it?

Then i guess i will use the outside cable connector to get signal into TT. I imagine connection in the TT is similar to the one in the house.

OK, how do i set the signal for the reception?

I will have more question later, thanks for the help.

I like you dish mount, what are the measurements? How do you weight it down to keep the wind from blowing it over?

Low profile Satellite dish mount

1. Yes the dish lays on it's back as in the picture and works just as good as standing up the normal way.

3. I did not think this mount up and take no credit for it's design. I first saw a very similar mount
made of steel pipe. About a year later I saw an RV'er with a very similar mount made of PVC.
Both the mounts I have seen were home made, Where they got the Idea I do not know. After looking
at the two others, I decided to build my own and this is what I came up with. From these pictures you
should be able to build a similar mount and add your ideas to make yours perfect for your needs. Note: I
have Direct TV with a single LNB.

4. This mount just sits on top of the ground (no anchors). It is very wind resistance because of it's low profile.
I have seen it sit through winds that have moved or tipped over tripod mounts near us. I filled the inside the
pipe with sand before gluing the last elbow on to add a little weight to the mount. Total weight of mine with
sand in it is 6 pounds. Others have suggested filling the pipe with concrete. Use whatever makes you happy.

5. Material can be found at most hardware, plumbing, or home improvement stores. Material
is schedule 40 1" PVC pipe and fittings, use the correct glue ** for PVC pipe.

6. You can make your base any size you feel is right for you. Mine is 21" wide, 21" long. Mount for dish is
6" above base. I used about 51" total of 1" PVC pipe then cut to the lengths I needed. Used 5 - 1" elbows,
3 - 1" tee's, 4 - 1" plugs for the bottom of the elbows that make the feet. Then 1 - 1" coupler and 1 - 1" cap
this is what the dish mounts on. All adjustment bolts on the dish have wing nuts for easy adjustment.

MODIFICATION NOTE: It has been brought to my attention that some dishes have a lip on the dish mount.
This lip prevents the dish mount from clamping tight enough to the PVC mounting stub. I understand the
lip can be cut or ground off, then the dish will clamp tight to the PVC mounting stub.

Here is a list of materials; i got the info from another Rv forum. The material list calls for 1" pipe, i used 1 1/4" the right size for the antenna bracket.

good luck and sorry for the late reply.

I use to be a directive installer and have installed in many types of rv's

The type of cable required is RG6

If you lnb has 4 connections, what that enables you to do is hook up 4 recievers or 2 dvr's. 2 cables are required to be able to record 2programs at Once but you can use one cable.

Depending on the year of the Rv it sometimes works through the cable connection on the outside without any modifications

Thanks for the info. In my TT i will have to install a separate wall plate to connect the SAT cable (and still use the same cable ran from factory) looks like the antenna booster is affecting the signal. I am using an AB switch between tv - sat box and antenna booster.

By passing the Antenna amp is not a problem, i already found the cable and have a 92% signal strength; i am installing a dedicated coax wall plate next to the original for the antenna this way i can use the existing cable and outside connector from the TT.

You can actually put a slimline3 LNB on that dish and make it work for hi definition. I played with it and got it to work. Because the dish is smaller you will not get as strong a signal as with the slimlin3 dish but strong enough to give you a decent picture. The advantage is that it takes up less room.
The PVC stand worked great when I used it for SD. I made mine with three legs. Much easier to level three legs verses four. I put caps on each leg then drilled holes from the top of the elbow down through the caps. i then epoxied nuts inside the caps and installed carriage bolts. Simply adjust bolts to level.
If the weather ever straightens up I'm going to see if i can get the setup working again.

Will not work for HD and the dish in the photo is outdated. You will need a slimline 3 or 5 HD dish or similar to receive HD programming.

I was going to say that.. When DirecTV first went HD they rented space on a couple of Echostar slots, 110 and 119, that looks like it is a "Triple LNB" with the LNB"s set for 3 equa-distant birds, 101 (plus 9 negrees) 110 (plus 9 more) 119.. The original DirecHD pattern.

Today they have moved the HD content to 99 and 103 and a different frequency band.. That antenna will work for DirecTV but not HD

I have one similar to this for my 5ver. When my oldest daughter married I wondered what I was going to do with the extra receiver. Then I thought of the camper. I found a used dish on Craigslist for $20. I bought it and hooked it up, works great. I use a simple hand held compass to align it. The key thing is Direct TV will automatically deactivate the receiver if not used in a 30 day period. You can reactivate it online or by calling them. You also have to make sure it is level. I also made my own mount for setting it on the ground. I'm actually thinking about applying for a patent on the mount I made.

It works!!!:B

The mount is very easy to build and it gives plenty support and stability. All connections are glued in except right under the dish, that joint serves as a pivot to rotate the antenna left or right and the thumb screw holds it in place. If i need to add weight i can add water or sand in the mount. I also used wing nuts on the antenna for easy adjustments.

Hi Everyone,

RE: This Topic

What type of coax cable do I need to hook up my DTV slimline dish with an HD receiver?

Also, my slimline has 4 cable hookups because it used to be hooked up to the house where the DTV was in 3 rooms.

First, is the 4th cable to get the service into the house and the other 3, to go to the three rooms?

Second, how do I know which one is the "main cable" and which one to hook the receiver to?

Thanks for the help.

I have little knowledge on this, if you have a HD receiver/ DVR you will need to run two cables from antenna to receiver- if it is a Regular HD no DVR you use one cable. I would use one of the cables or connections in the middle of the LNB.

Clamps and 2X4 to create a pin mox extension mount when sat position is at front of trailer.

Mount on ladder for sat positions towards the rear of trailer.

Also can clamp on any picnic table or side lips of most slideouts. Very secure and no worries about wind blowing over. Has also passed a few kids with football and basketball impacts with no loss of signal ! Randu

Should work fine if LMB's are good and you watch Standard definition--I've been told it will not work with HD. I have 3, 1 for house, 1 mounted out in yard for trailer use, and 1 in the trailer for traveling. Randu

Thanks for the replies. I am not worry about HD, it is camping and having a TV is a luxury.

Randu; when you are using the antenna in your trailer- how many cables you are running from the antenna and which connector in the LMB are you using?
Dave and Homer thanks for pointing in the right direction.

Only 1 cable since I only use 1 standard reciever (No DVR). Ok to use any of the 4 terminals at the LNB. Frind has a DVR so he has 2 cables. I gave up on the tripod years ago as too many tip overs unless I staked out with additional guy wires. I use quick grip bar clamps to pinbox, rear ladder or slideout side lip. I'll try to find pictures to add to this later. Randu
