Dump Rage

Do You have dump rage?

You know the scenario weekend warrior gotta dump at the end of the weekend and the line is long.

I'm finding myself more and more irritated at the free dump stations. I only boondock and these stations are in bigger towns that are on my way home so I have no other choice. Closest dump station to me is an hour from my house.

I've been picking up a few handy tips as well to make it as fast as possible. However there is always these things that blow my mind when I pull up.

Usually I don't get too wound up but this one really got me, but after I really thought about it, it might actually make the process even faster.

So I come to the dump guy is unloading in front of me. I get my door up and my hose out and actually walk up and lay my hose down before my turn.

Guys are nice and then I see him and his friend pulling in a water hose i think it was a drinking hose no less attached to the nasty dump hose spigot hose. He proceeds to run it through the window and another 10 minutes goes by. I was next inline so I was patient as you have to be watching him unhook the water line with it turned on etc. Always good for a laugh.

Now there is a great line behind me at least 5 campers deep. This guy rolls up in a class A on the opposite side of the dump. I can see him putting on gloves and getting out when the first guy finishes his weird flushing procedure. The first guy in front of me was kind enough to actually move forward to put his gear away.(nice!)

So watching this other guy I KNEW what he was up too and I raced to get in position and get dumping. He's opened his bay door and pulls out his hose, I'm already hooked up an dumping at this point.

He says the worst part about camping is? I cut him off and said you know the line is way back there right. He says yeah but it'll just take a second. He knew I wasn't happy about what he was doing and I finished quickly and got outta there.

I know if i was next in line with this cutter I would have probably lost it on him.

I was trying to let him know its not right what you're doing with the long line of people behind me.

After I reflected awhile I kinda thought about something. It would only work in this type of dump. An island with enough room on both sides for the one dump. If you have 2 campers trying to dump. there is always the guy taking his time hooking up flushers putting gloves on and the other guy can be dumping so on an so forth. basically cutting the time down to only dumping and moving through the lineup faster. Of course it would only work if one is dumping an the other is setting up or tearing down.

But i see some of the most ridiculous things at these places I get anxiety dumping on a Sunday. Maybe the answer is time of day and time of week to avoid the dreaded dump station.

I've tried to develop a system for these types of places. They can really add a significant amount of time waiting on these clowns that take their time 3 deep can be an hour if everyone is flushing and doing god knows what else.

Be ready. Doors up hoses placed near ahead of time. dump. add some water down the sewer, pull away then collect your things so the next guy can move in. I try to be like pit crew at a indy 500 race. My record is 4 minutes from move in to move away.

Sorry for the rant but do you get DUMP RAGE?

I think this is the reason we stopped using RV Black Tank "chemicals" completely several years ago. We use only household products, like Dawn Dishwasing Liquid, Tide liquid Laundry soap (HE)... low subds, and bleach in our camper holding tanks. We use the same things in the house, so never any danger of using anything that will kill the bacteria growth in the septic tank.

And when you think about it, if anyone uses those type of "RV specific chemicals" your chemicals are also going somewhere???? when you dump your tanks at RV dump stations. The contents of your tank doesn't just magically disappear. It goes somewhere?

Wow.

DW and I are total newbies. The first several times at the dump station, we apologized in advance to the folks behind us. No one seemed to mind. In fact, many were nice enough to even help us along.

So the state removed the threaded connections. Once I watched a moron in a class A dig out a 100' garden hose, and proceed to attempt to hook his tank flush to the potable water station for filling your fresh tank about 40 yards away on the other side of a 4 lane entrance road with a gatehouse in the middle. All while their were at least 6 other people, myself included, behind him in line. I walked over and got a go screw yourself when I suggested that may not be the greatest idea. The other guy who was behind me was not so nice, he got the go screw yourself also, then took out a razor knife and cut the guys garden hose in half. I thought I was going to see fisticuffs at the dump station which would of been great fun and a great ending to a perfect trip, but by then the ranger pulled in and read the moron with the hose the riot act lol.

Yeah thats insane I do think if I was the next guy behind me I would have gone crazy on this guy for cutting.

What is it with flushers that everyone is afraid there rv will blow up if they dont hook up the hose to the silly thing. I dont even have one but if i did i would never ever think to use it at a busy place. my sensors hardly work anyway nor are they reliable in any way the first toss of TP and im at level 3. I use a wand flusher in the toilet a few times a year in my driveway.

BTW, what is a "Weekend Warrior"? Sounds like an toy hauler RV. I`ll take as much time as I think I need to dump my tanks, which is why I have never had any issues with my tanks!

A weekend warrior is a non retired working zombie like myself that usually only gets the enjoyment of rving friday through monday, but also a weekend warrior braves the crowds and uses his/her RV quite often We dream of retirement and what it would be like to do all of this during the week!

Oh and yes the rare occasion that We stop at a FHU site the tanks are getting filled and dumped constantly they will smell like roses at those places. I think people are afraid of the poop pyramid or the struveit clogger monster but there are some excellent products that hookup to pressure washers if you need to give your tank a proper enema!

I normally always have FHU. once in a while I`ll get W/E only and have to dump before I leave. I make it a point to leave early so I don`t have to deal with people.

As long as the people at the dump are actually dumping I will wait patiently. If I see someone doing something wrong, or if there is a substantially quicker method, I may make a gentle suggestion if the situation (and person) seems to warrant it. Otherwise, turn up the radio and A/C, and relax.

Sounds just like a boat ramp to me. New boaters and new RVers should sit and watch first like we did when we were newbies. Some of them are just clueless selfish jerks but I think most people (at least the RVers) want to conform to polite interaction with their fellow humans.
I love watching boat ramp vids on Youtube, especially site 6 at Havasu.

Yeah with all the ecoli and salmonella floating around everywhere thats totally asking for trouble.

This forum has taught me alot about rving and I make a effort to sanitize my fresh water every year. introducing poop water to the tank is inconceivable. We don't even drink out of the fresh water tank. Our fresh water hose is always male to female looped and stowed until fill up would never ever hookup to a poop hose to fill.

I really appreciate the inputs on how everyone deals with the dump stations and looks like a home setup is key to sanity.

I guess the real point is the audacity of certain people that think the world revolves around them and they are completely oblivious to others. I try my best to be considerate of others and really strive to get in and get out. Instead of being "one of those special ones" :B

No other choice? Can you fix your home system to dump there? Is there a commercial dump at a R V park? Will the city let you dump at the treatment plant? There is always a choice.

Nope I live way out in the country. But since you brought up the home thing If I did buy a macerator pump I do have a septic tank within 20 feet of the RV. Do Macerators push the waste out? like through a 50 foot garden hose?

If you can put in a cleanout and get uphill of it, you can dump directly to your own septic tank. If you can't get uphill, you can use a macerator pump. As I understand it, the waste runs out (down) into the macerator pump and then the pump grinds it up and pumps it uphill to your dump location.

Nope...no rage here.

I RV to relax and get rid of stress. If there's something that adds to stress, I just walk away. Not worth getting all worked up about it. If I can't wait my turn, then I move on and take care of it at home via my clean out.

Rage...? Goodness I hope not. I sure do get annoyed at the selfish attitudes of some though. Too many people seem oblivious to those around them. I can dump my black while hooking up the black tank flush line (if there is one available) and turn on the water. Then I close my black tank and open the gray. While the gray is dumping, the black tank is filling up with fresh water for a second rinse. When gray is done, open the black a second time and let it drain.

When there is a line behind me, I can be done in 5 minutes. The tank isn't polished and clean enough to eat out of, but in 8 years I've had ZERO odor issues. Just as important (to me at least) is the fact that I have been courteous and considerate of those people waiting behind me.

The people that spend 15-45 minutes dumping, flushing, filling, flushing, polishing, double checking, flushing again and slowly putting supplies away are inconsiderate. I get annoyed, but not enraged...
