It has been a long time since I last posted. Have a 2014 cedar creek the front cap is bad. It looks like the jel-coat is starting to come off. What do you guys think I should Do? Years ago they were talking about putting a floor wax on it. I Do not know if that trick is still being used. HELP

For what it's worth, I cleaned and scrubbed down the front of my 2005 trailer last week, it was very dull and chalky....I then applied 4 coats of the ZEP high gloss floor wax. The thing looks amazing! I bet you can see the shine from outer space! I am going to do the rest of the camper this weekend. Hopefully it will hold up over time, but from an instant gratification standpoint, it's a 10+
I did that on my rear cap. It looked good for almost a year. Then it really got bad. It crystalized and turned white and started to flake off. A mess to get off. Had it painted.

I feel your pain!
I have a 2014 Outback with the dreaded faded cap and have been trying to get Keystone to paint the cap. I'm out of the 1 year warranty so they don't want anything to do with me. They know they had a problem with the gel coat and are now coming painted from the factory. Now I have to bite the bullet and pay $2500 to get my $35000 Outback fixed!
If you shop around at some of the big truck/bus body shops or anyplace with a big enough paint booth you can get it painted for around $1,000-1,500. Still a lot of money but less than you are talking about. Forget going to RV dealers for this. They usually send it out, mark up the price and get paid for doing almost nothing.I had both ends of my 2011 Heartland Big Country painted and these are the prices I paid. Had quotes from $800.00 at a shop in IA to $3,500 at a local RV dealer..

When you say the gel coat is coming off do you mean clear coat? Usually clear coat goes over the gel coat and sometimes it flakes off. Usually the gel coat will crack first like spider cracks long before it flakes off.

If you are the original owner.....Cedar Creek has been very good about replacing them with a new version that is supposed to have a better quality gel coat. Contact Denise Davis @ Didavis@forestriverinc.com She is supposed to be THE guru in charge of getting this fixed. If you are not the original owner they won't be much help. In that case the best cure is to have it painted. I tried the floor wax thing on my last rig and while it looked god for awhile, it then started to crystalize and turned into a mess. Painting or possibly replacement is the only long term cure. been there done that.

X2 on this quote but also go the the Forest River Forums for a lot more info about the Cedar Creek caps, plus this is not the only brand with this issue but as stated if original owner they will take care of you.

I had mine painted with an epoxy paint.
Problem solved and it's way more durable than GC.
