Fueling rant

We were driving back to Houston from the Texas Hill Country yesterday. As we always do, we stopped at the Bucees in Bastrop to top off the tank and hit the restrooms. I pull over to the fueling island on the far end because itโ€™s easier to enter and exit while pulling a trailer. The pump was occupied, but I was prepared to wait while they fill their tank. As the woman was filling the SUV, her companion exited the passenger side. She hits the key fob to lock the doors and they head inside to shop, nozzle in the tank, completely oblivious to anyone else. I lay on the horn to get their attention and they figure out that I want them to move the car so I can fuel up. They moved it and all was well. After I fueled up I moved to the side of the lot so DW and I could have lunch. We then watched as some guy pulled up to the same pump with a 35 foot pull behind and took his whole family inside, blocking the pumps for at least 20 minutes. Another man pulling a smaller trailer, with much more patience than me, waited behind him the entire time. What has happened to people that they think this is acceptable? This has become a common occurrence at this particular Bucees. Thanks for listening.

In a timely fashion, I was behind a driver in the drive thru at a local fast food establishment. When they got to the window and got their food, the driver pulled up about 3 feet and then proceeded to pass the food out and get their child situated in his/her car seat with their food. Of course they are still blocking the window. I just shook my head.

You can't fix rude/stupid.

People like these "pump hogs" draw a circle around themselves and live in it, it moves with them everywhere they go, and if you're not standing in it, you don't exist. The circle has a label written in big red letters, "This is a no courtesy zone, please do not enter."

I just wish that all stations would put the diesel pumps on a separate fuel island without a gasoline pump. All too often some dodo pulls up to get gasoline at one of the only two diesel pumps when there are other gasoline lanes open. They drive around with their heads up their rear end and are oblivious to the rest of the world.

Had one old biddy tell me to move my truck so she could drive through and area. Problem was that I had held back waiting for the gas pumper to finish and another one whipped in there before I could pull up to the pump. To prevent this from happening again, I was pulled up right on his bumper with my tail feathers out in the aisle.

How many pumps were open while this was going on? Doesn't that Buc-ees have about a thousand pumps? (exaggerating, of course)

on edit: Never mind, I was thinking about the Buc-ees in Luling. Carry on...

I believe I was just witness to the same kind of behavior in a casino.

Two old ladies are slowly walking toward a ticket redemption machine. I'm headed the same way, directly behind them, with a redeemable ticket. Lady#1 pulls out a ticket and feeds it in.. all the while the both of them are talking to each other. The total amount of the ticket is $32, which Lady1 counts carefully while lady#2 fumbles in her purse for her ticket, both still talking to each other. As Lady#2 cashes out, I'm now looking forward to them both leaving the machine to me, and the guy behind me.

No, they both continue to stand right in front of the machine, talking more, very slowly edging away from the machine. Neither one even bothered to look behind her to see that there were other people who wanted to use the machine. No, they just ambled very slowly away, all the while talking and trying to stuff bills into their wallets. Totally oblivious to anyone around them.

If I can draw a parallel of this behavior to how people act at gas stations, I can only conclude that, just like these 2 old gals, the fact that other people need to use the device is not even a part of their consciousness. I know how hard it is to do just about anything when carrying on a conversation, and, their comfort and their conversation are the only thing in the world right at this moment. Nobody else is really there.

He was probably online checking his credit card balance before filling up... :B

Had a nit-wit blocking me for some time. Counting money, arranging his wallet, etc. then I saw it.... The greeny bumper stickers, he was out to save the planet by blocking one RV at a time.

I see that as often or even more often than the 'kids'. No age group has a lock on manners or rudeness.

I can't tell you how glad I am to have an auxiliary tank! I refuel every 1700 miles or so when not pulling and about every 900 or so when towing. The less time I have to spend around these inconsiderate morons the better. I don't go to Wal- Mart for the same reason. Too many of the same type of people there too.

....and everybody knocks NJ for not having self service pumps.

This sort of thing never happens in NJ.
Attendant will hustle you along.

If NJ ever went self serve and this sort of thing happened you would have fist fights all over.

I was amazed a few weeks ago at a very busy (lowest price around) Speedway station in Waterford, MI. As I was patiently waiting at the edge of the station lot for enough room to maneuver our coach and toad up to a pump, two young fellows in a pickup that had just filled up parked off to the side and got out. While one of them held up cars from passing me, the other directed me up to a vacant pump while watching my clearances in the tight turn in. Before I could do more than wave a thank you, they hopped in their truck and took off. When I was done filling the tank, another fellow blocked traffic with his car and waved me on out. Maybe it's a "Michigan thing"? Whatever, it was refreshing to see!

Had the similar thing in Podunk SC. Was pulling in when a young guy pulled in, in front of me...He pulls to the pump in front of me not leaving any room for me to access my gas tank. He proceeds inside. I assumed he was paying for his gas. 20 minutes goes by and I can see him inside talking to people. Another 5 minutes or so passes by and he comes out with take out food and a fountain drink. It takes him another 5 minutes to get in his vehicle and get situated before he left. He never got gas! but decided to park there. F'ing idiot...

The me generation strikes again.

I just sit and wait, most of the time we don't have any issues, and since I don't want to start a ruckus, I wait.
