Has anyone out there had trouble getting popular campground reservations thru Reserve America? I have tried to get reservations at Nevada Beach in Tahoe for days with no luck. Is there a trick to it?

I'm curious as to what the actual issue is:

1. Is it that the system keeps kicking the OP out, etc.?

2. Is it that the OP is trying to reserve past the 6 month open res period (yes, Nevada State Beach has the 6 month limit)?

3. Is it that the OP is trying to reserve before the campground open date of May 12, 2017?

4. Is it that the OP is trying for specific dates and the system is indicating that there are no available campsites for those dates?

If #1, the OP should try contacting the campground directly.

If #2 or #3, the OP needs to pick appropriate dates between May 12, 2017 and 6 months from the date he tries to make the reservation or wait until his desired dates fall within the 6 month period AND/OR ensure the campground is open for the dates he wants.

If #4, the OP should review the list by "date range availability" and see what the reservations look like during the dates he wants. It may be that there is no one campsite available for all the dates, but that he could move after the first X days to another site and get all the dates reserved.

It's been a nightmare securing sites anymore & costly. Many times last year we ended up booking a site a day and moving to a different site each day so another booking fee. 36 days of camping at 28 sites. Its odd that we saw sites empty when the reservation system said it's all booked !

I read somewhere a set of articles on the fact that the RV sector, rv'ers, RV manufacturing, dealerships & camp grounds are on a non sub stainable course. We're here as camp sites go.

Rant over

Cheers

I was not aware of that email function, so I looked it up. It only applies to some states, not including the one I book the most, Florida. That is likely the reason I had not noted the feature. Still it is good to know.

"Note: Availability Notifications are currently available for the following only:
California State Parks
Connecticut State Parks
Delaware State Parks
Idaho State Parks
Massachusetts State Parks
Maryland State Parks
Montana State Parks
New Hampshire State Parks
New York State Parks
Ohio State Parks
Orange County, CA
Pennsylvania State Parks

Reserve America has a "when available" notification email.

I used it for an October reservation (NY has a 9 month window), most of the good sites were gone when I was notified, but I could have gotten a site.

Letchworth SP here in NY has a 3 day Craft & Art Show over Columbus Day weekend, the last 3 years I could only get a site starting on Sunday, when booking in April! This year I started right after Christmas, finally booked on the Thursday before for 5 days.

Not sure if this will work, but it has for me twice last year. I was looking to book via campground website.....when I put in 28 ft. for camper length, there was nothing available....put in 30 ft. and sites were available....try different combo's

Popular spots on reserve America go the instant they become available. You need to be ready at 9:00 am central time clicking on the button (at least in WI). Its also a good idea to get a few people trying at the same time. Another trick is to book before the date you want and roll forward to the date you want by canceling and rebooking before it becomes available. There are some sites I have tried to get all summer and have been unable to.

May not apply to you but there is a date window that reservations can be made.

For example, one cannot make a res beyond 6 months in advance.I am not sure if that holds true for each and every Reserve America location but it is in all the California sites I want to reserve.

The booking window varies by state, federal, type of park, etc. Florida state parks for instance, have an 11 month window, and for the popular parks in the winter, you need to have your finger on the key exactly at 8:00 am on the first day it opens for the time frame you want.

Nevada Beach Campground doesn't open until May 12, 2017. It's closed for the winter.

Looking at the list of sites, there is lots of availability depending on how long you want to stay. Weekends fill up soonest.

Are you just looking at the "campsite list" or the "date range availability" below the map of the campground? The "date range availability" tab will give you a list of all the campsites and will show what dates each are available. You might find you will have to change sites mid-stay to get the dates you want.

May not apply to you but there is a date window that reservations can be made.

For example, one cannot make a res beyond 6 months in advance.I am not sure if that holds true for each and every Reserve America location but it is in all the California sites I want to reserve.

If your booking is for August, placing a res request in January is beyond that 6 month window and it won't go though.

Popular sites go FAST......some people lurk by the computer on the day a window date opens to jump on a site and keep doing that as each day passes and another open day opens up for a res.......then repeat as needed for how ever many days you want a res for a site.
