Greatest Weight You’ve Ever Towed

Just for fun......which “NO” criticism from those that have never had any violation of any law! Give truck year/make/model......Whether it was farm equipment, an emergency tow for just a short distance, move a trailer for a friend, or something you’ve done as a normal (for you) towing ! If you towed doubles, give total weight of both towed units.

I suspect that most of us towed a bit over the listed weights for the tow vehicle,especially if you started towing in the ‘70’s or ‘80’s.....when we had less knowledge of towing limits and before the internet created the “Weight Police”!

AGAIN.......”No Bashing”, as everyone “now” knows and understands the “yellow sticker”!

I’ll lead off....’96 Frieghtliner FLD 120, pulling a “pup”, grossed-out @ 111,000 lbs
‘97 Dodge Ram 2500, 5.9 Cummins pulling doubles, grossed-out @

120,000 lbs hazmat. Daily for lots of years. When I was doing that my last TV was a Binder (IH) 500 hp Detroit, 18 spd, dual locking rears, and 8 axles.

Now I tow a AF 27-5L with an F-250.

something over 80,000. The scale master never really told me. But made me go around 3 times. Finally said I would lose enough weight (top ice, and fuel) to be legal before I went out the other side, and let me go

The feed mill driver put too much corn in the trailer once. As soon as I let out the clutch I knew I had a problem. I hit the scale at 94,000 pounds. I drove around to the dump hopper to let some back off to get back down to 80,000. As for down the road, about 84,000 with a '99 Mack CH tractor with 500 HP and a 48' Wilkins walking floor trailer.

62000 lbs. A Caterpillar EL200B excavator weighing about 50K on a 3 axle tiltbed tag trailer behind a 1990 Kenworth dump truck. GCW was around 80K with the truck empty. It made the front end light and was pretty squirrely to drive. It was also 10'6" wide so I needed an oversize permit. Same truck loaded with a loaded pup trailer, up to about 100K combined. It drove and handled much better in this configuration. With 'only' 425 horsepower she was pretty slow. 🙂

78 Chev 3/4 ton

Did a dump run after stripping an entire house of stucco. Piled it high in the bed between my tool boxes and rack.

I had 3 1/3 tons in the bed of the truck. 6,680 pounds. More than the weight of the empty truck, plus my rack and boxes without the ladders on top added about 1500 pounds.

So that was a total of about 8,180 pounds in the bed of a 3/4 ton truck.
Back end was right down on the snubbers, front end was gazing at the sky. Steering was a tad light too.... If I knew where the picture was, I'd post it here!

Brakes took some effort to hold it back.

Made the mistake of coasting down a hill at the dump in tree climbing first gear and then letting the clutch out to slow it down. Clutch must have hit about 15 grand before coming apart....

I was incorrect on my ‘97 Ram weight quote, I only gave the trailer weights......forgot to add the truck. So, I guess we grossed-out @ somewhere around 31,000 pounds.

Pulled 140,000 lbs with 7 axle set of trains with loads of lumber out of the north. Now pull 20,000 on a gooseneck with an fl60 frieghtliner toy truck. Pull my 12,000 lb fiver on the weekends with gmc 2500 Duramax.

Most overweight was with a '79 Chevy half ton. Put a yard of wet topsoil in the bed. Brakes barely stopped it, and broke a leaf, but it got where it was going. Most weight was with a dump-bed dually pulling a 30+ foot gooseneck trailer stacked high with hardwood planks from a sawmill. Don't know if it was overweight, but the 454 big block had to work hard that day.

1980 "R" Model, 1 stack Mack.. grossed at 118,000... loaded a "double" load of floor plates down the pier...

loaded the skids side by side so I did not stack them over the headboard . .

Boy, I loved that truck... She would pull a house if I wanted her to...

About 200,000 # I was the rear tractor in a dual rig moving oil rig equipment. actually I was pushing not towing.:)
