I guess we could just carry it on the bed but.....

We do not have a back bumper so that option is out. How strong is the ladder attachment; does anyone carry their dish there and, if so, have you had any problems?

I, too originally was carrying my dish on the upper bed but it was a very inelegant solution so I did this:

Take it apart, store the small stuff in a suitable tote and the dish and tripod in the storage box.

For years, I have carried mine in the bed of my truck in front of the fiver hitch.
