I believe in LED lights now

I turned on our outside light a few nights ago. I forgot to turn it off. Next time I went to turn it on it didn't work, so I just assumed the light blew. Upon further inspection, the light had melted the plastic lens cover and subsequently blew itself up. I will be replacing all of my lights with LED bulbs shortly. I had no idea these little automotive type bulbs got so hot.
I got here as quick as I could.

I bought a box of 10 led bulbs on amazon for about $30 and replaced all the bulbs that didn't have led. I save the other bulbs for spares or when a family member or neighbor needs a bulb, they can have the others! Good Luck & be Safe ! ! !

On my last trailer I had a factory flush mounted outdoor light with clear plastic lens. Factory installed 1141 bulb. Lens melted enough to deform.

The RV LED retrofits can work great with far less heat. Highly recommended.

I switched to LEDs from www.ledtrailerlights.com back in 2009 and have ordered more as time has gone on. Their products have a lifetime warranty.

I replaced almost all of my incandescent lights with LEDs, saved lots of power. LEDs use about 15% of the power for the equivalent light. 15% of the power equals 15% of the heat.

One needs to pay attention to the number on the bulb. There are various size/watt bulbs. If one burns out and you replace it with an automotive tail light you just doubled the wattage.

Our MH had festoon bulbs to light the bays. And we had a ton of them. One of them was always melting the plastic holder and causing that light to short. I replaced them all with LED strip lights for each bay and no more shorts.

I didn't do it to save energy, since the bay doors aren't opened that much. I did it because the plastic fixtures were melting all the time and causing the breaker to pop for all the bays.

Same thing happened to me.. I was shocked (no pun) at the melted plastic. Gads!

What kinda surprises me is how hot the household 120v LEDs get.
