Actually someone is wondering why you wouldn't think a broken chassis could be a major cause of why it went to hell in a handbasket so quickly... That's a pretty major point to leave out of the conversation - which is why people keep asking you questions - because what you were telling us wasn't making sense.

Because SHE is a health care professional. She is not an RV nor auto mechanic who is aware of the potential issues with her 5th wheel. She came in for advice and knowledge on an RV forum from experienced members and not to be dogged for posting an honest question. She does not know about industry issues with frame failures.

Are you sure the RV tech didn't tell her that info today when picking up the 5th wheel not when she wrote the post?

I was confused too because the OP stated in her first post, "the wall had exploded. Everywhere." and "everything was wet, the whole interior". I see now, from the pictures and the further explanation, this is localized damage and, IMO is totally repairable. Yes, the cost to have it done is probably more than the total value if done by professionals, The description of the damage was somewhat histrionic.

OH48Lt- Thank you for the advice and information. And yes, it is confusing. I still don't understand the how or why. But it is what it is now. I am just hoping to be treated fairly, that is all. Trust me, I would much rather have my beautiful camper back...to have something to show for, then to have nothing. Which is exactly where I set right now.

I cannot name names or point fingers or yell, holler, and throw words about. I'm just heartbroken and came here looking for advice, people that may have had similar issues. When this is over I will divulge those kind of things. Right now I am still waiting to talk to a different dept of the insurance, but she hasn't called me back. So, hopefully this will all go ok, and maybe someone can learn from my horrendous mess. This sure ain't fun, that's for sure!

Right now, it seems all is in limbo until the insurance company decides what it is going to do. If they are nice and decide to pay full market value for the RV, they will send you a check. They are not going to pay you for $20K in repairs. If they decide to not pay anything or very little, which is likely if they determine the damage was not a sudden event, you're out one trailer. You can then go to the Ohio insurance commission and file a complaint, or elect to hire an attorney for $5-10K to maybe squeeze another couple of thousand out of the insurance company.

The entire set of events here is confusing, hope your insurance company decides to play nice, and it works out OK for you.

I have been reading your thread but at times due to others posts I started to lose the original post.

I am so sorry that you are having to go through "everything". At this point where do things stand? It really doesn't matter how the damage happened, what happens now and if you are to be compensated is what counts. I am surprised that the insurance company allowed you to bring the unit home, or have you written off the insurance?

Keep us informed I would recommend that you have some legal advice before you do anything else. I hope you have not compromised your claim with moving it home.
We hope things turn out that you are satisfied. Don't let this ruin you from getting another RV.

but I think you bigger problem is a broken chassis…

BTY if it is the chassis this is a much more common problem than most people think…

Things are beginning to make more sense now…


things can get bad quickly from this, and it isn’t safe to be moving it this way…
Especially with a landing gear problem now on top of the rest…
