Plan to head So from NH in Jan and not back in state til Oct. My inspection date for Tow Vehicle is June. I can do the registration on line/mail but the inspection has me flummoxed. We will be in WA, OR at that time of year. Anyone out there with help? Peter

In MA, my kids would go early when they were home on a break from college so they would not have to plan a trip home. So if the were due in Feb they would go when home for Christmas and then that was their new month. Good luck and have fun.

Do you necessarily have to an inspection in a specific month? Why not get the inspection in December or January before you leave. It might be early, but it's better than having having to return home in the middle of the summer when you're a zillion miles way.

I agree with DrewE. I'm from NH and my inspections always expire when we're gone. No one cares except NH. I get them inspected when I get back to NH.

Renewing my license and registrations is another matter. No matter what kind of forwarding I have, NH will not allow their mail to be forwarded. If I forget to go on-line and renew my license, it's a bear to do if it lapses.

As a practical matter, other states don't care about the inspection, only New Hampshire (or whatever your home state is).

You can request a 30 day temporary inspection from NH according to this official FAQ page. The main purpose is to provide a way for you to get back into New Hampshire without the current inspection and catch your breath long enough to get one done. I suppose alternately you could chance it and hope for the best.

Checkout the DMV or Licensing website for your area. In Washington you can complete an exemption form that will allow you to renew your vehicle tabs and delay the emissions testing until you are back home.
