Installing standard household toilet in a RV??

I know it sounds like a silly question, and I agree.

But, have some friends that are thinking of going the rv lifestyle in the near future. He has no problems jumping in both feet, but she just insists she cannot live with a RV toilet. There is no logic here, and no amount of talking is going to change her mind. It is probably a deal breaker.

So, snoozing in my lazy-boy, the thought occurred to me about installing a standard toilet. I am not an expert at any of this stuff, so I need some insight as to whether or not it would be do-able.

Again, don't need arguements for or against doing it, just if it would work.

Thanks

Sure you can!!! You're gonna need a big TV, but then again a Tundra can pull the space shuttle so it should work. JK

The bath house will have a nice residential toilet (unless it is just a pit version)

I know someone who did it. Wasn't long before replacing rotted floor from splashing water so this is doable. Smart? Not really.

There are many ways to solve problems. 6:12 yesterday told of how to solve that problem. There are many, many more ways to solve those problems.

The OP wanted just to know if it would work and nothing more.

Yes, it will work.

Just spoke to the guy with the residential toilet. He had it and new wood flooring installed by a local home remodeler. It sets on a platform (original to the unit) so plumbing wasn't an issue. However, the platform makes it taller than he would like.
He hasn't had any issues with it to date. His DP has a 45-50 gal black tank with 100 gal fresh and he has gone 5 days without a problem.

They decided on a residential on a whim more or less. He started looking for a new toilet and it just evolved to that.

He will remove it from storage in a few weeks and will send me some photo's at that time.

I asked him to come here and discuss it first hand but he laughed and said he will never read Woodall's again, said something about attitudes. :h
He stays up with escapees and irv2 so if you would like to talk to him first hand post your ??? there.

You know, there are many conflicts in this world that could be resolved if only we knew the issue(s) that are causing the conflict.

If, the only issue of this couple RVing or not is indeed the toilet, and there is a reasonable solution to the problem, then why not explore the posibilities?

Considering the responses of those that had something of value to add, it will take some doing, but the toilet issue is resolvable.

Now then, if that will be enough to get them into a rv is another issue.

The question was whether or not it COULD be done and if it would work.

If she cannot tolerate an RV toilet, they should not buy an RV.

Of course it can be done. You will obviously have to move the wall to the rear of the toilet to allow for the additional bulk of the tank that the new toilet will have. Drain the tank before travel. I'm not sure how well the flush will work with the small vent tube that the black tank now has.
But with each new problem to such a modification, there obviously is a cure.
Perhaps a visit to a Camping World or dealer could provide you with an alternative to an easier transition to a RV toilet that looks and feels more like the residential type???? Just a shot in the dark here.

I'd say maybe camping isn't for her if she can't use an rv toilet....next she won't like the oven, I won't even get into navy showers

Our first trailer (way back when) had a residential toilet in it. Someone had used the trailer to live in while they remodeled a house so it was hooked to the house sewer system. On our first (and only) trip using that toilet, we ran out of water by the first morning. Learned a lot on that trip.

One of my camping buddy's, and his name happens to be Buddy has done just that in his Class A for the very same reason, the wife insisted. He bought a used big DP and the wife hated the RV throne and insisted on a residential model for whatever reason. I believe he took it to Dues in Dickenson to have it done.

He shuts off the water to it and drains the tank and bowl (uses a cleaning brush to force the water out of the bowl) before he hits the road.

Therefore, it can be and has been done.

How does he keep the smell from the black tank out of the RV with no water in the trap?

And I can't believe that connection from the tank to the bowl doesn't occasionally work loose. My next Q would be...Would a wife that picky really enjoy the RV life?

I'll call him today to get answers, maybe some photo's.

They have camped for years in a TT so she has no objection to RV'ing. I think her issue was sitting on something that used. I believe the deal was in order for her to agree to a 12 yr old A he shall replace the toilet, carpet and mattress, so he did. He also replace the sofa and dinette.

As far as filling the tank? He bought a late '90s Dutch Star. How large is the black tank in something like that? Let's say 40 gal's. 2 ppl, 3 times a day at 2 gal/flush, that's a week! He's like me by not staying in one spot more than three of four days.
