Jeep exploded ...

JFYI: Anyone that has a newer Jeep ... Jeep has a recall out for an electrical issue. Jeep has not notified every owner. Day before yesterday, a Jeep in our neighbor's garage shorted out at 3AM, blew up the full gas tank, and completely destroyed the home except the block sidewalls and slab foundation.

That's all the details I have at the moment. If you own a Jeep (not sure model or year) I'd check the recall notices or call your dealer and find out about it. IF I get more info, I will share.

No one was hurt, luckily. The residents woke and safely fled out the back door of the home. ๐Ÿ˜ž M44 ...

The home is in Leesburg, Florida...

Occasionally, a black tank malfunction might be a musical, this was not. ๐Ÿ™‚

Grit Dog --- The HOA is involved only to know why the house burned, to advise the neighborhoods. Could have been a water heater (we have natural gas heat and water) ... HOA involved for information only, and for no other reason - HOA presumes no liability issues. We have 1500 homes in our community, all built in 1998 - 2000.

Can't confirm the exact cause at this time - but it was sure a nasty fire. I probably agree, HOI will pay, and then try to back-charge Jeep if it was the actual cause. Too early to tell, and FD won't tell civilians while investigating. That will take days or week, I'd imagine.

If the gas leak itself was the cause of the explosion and not faulty wiring, etc with the house, then I would expect Jeep to be responsible for all the damage. I expect the homeowner's insurance will pay for the damage and then seek to force Jeep to reimburse them.

If I find our anything about cause, who's liable, what insurance does, etc. I'll come back and let anyone know. The residents left today to move in with their kids until it gets resolved. My wife is Director on HOA BOD, so whatever we find out, I should know as well. She is looking into it now, only a couple days, so not much info but rumors at this time.

Rumor has it, Jeep seems to be willing to accept some responsibility - how much, we don't know. Certainly, the Jeep itself. But the house damage is a Q?????

Not likely if the vehicle has not been in an accident but if there's been a puncture and fumes escaped with an ignition source such as the water heaters it COULD happen. We no longer own our 2021 Wrangler but got the recall. Got tired of the "death wobble" and squeaky cap that Jeep refused to deal with. If there's been an investigation by the fire dept to find a root cause I'd highly recommend he get copies. Although insurance has covered the damages it might be interesting to know if Jeep has any culpability at all.
