Labor Day Horror Stories

Explorer II
There are only 3 weekends that we will not go camping: Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day.

So let's hear from all those that were camping this weekend:

1. Outside speakers and loud music;
2. Late night parties;
3. Drunk, rowdy, and "hold my beer and watch this";
4. Kids screaming, running through my site, etc.;
5. Dog was loud, unleashed, or pooped in my site;
6. I left stuff outside and it was stolen;
7. CG was a dump, owner was nasty;
8. Traffic was terrible and nobody respects RV drivers;
9. Neighbor ran an open-frame worksite generator all weekend;
10. My (fill in equipment here) broke and ruined the trip.

Who wants to go first? Special prize if you can check "all of the above" LOL.

1. Outside speakers and loud music;
Spray foam insulation. Problem solved.;)

2. Late night parties;
Join in and be more obnoxious.

3. Drunk, rowdy, and "hold my beer and watch this";
Need more material for โ€œWorld's Dumbestโ€:S

4. Kids screaming, running through my site, etc.;
I sit outside without my shirt on. That will scare anything away.:E

5. Dog was loud, unleashed, or pooped in my site;
They will never find the body....just kidding!

6. I left stuff outside and it was stolen;
Saved me a trip to the dumpster.

7. CG was a dump, owner was nasty;
Always check office porch for banjos and shotguns.

8. Traffic was terrible and nobody respects RV drivers;
I always become invisible to others as soon as I hitch up the rig.:h

9. Neighbor ran an open-frame worksite generator all weekend;
Save gas, plug into it.

10. My (fill in equipment here) broke and ruined the trip.
My excuse for plugging into their genny.:B
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

Thursday late afternoon I discover water pump on my Duramax leaking.
Friday afternoon my mechanic, that knew I had camping plans and was giving it his all, informed me that a bolt snapped and we were done.
He could not get a replacement bolt until Tuesday! Truck could not be finished without new bolt.
After hearing the bad news,I sat at my Nexus 7 tablet surfing the net, contemplating my revised weekend plans. I came upon a Craigslist advertisement for RV towing.
"5th wheel,bumper pull I tow it all" the ad read.
I could not resist making a call. We agreed on a price.
7 A.M Saturday morning a stranger showed up with a F-350 with a gooseneck adapter hitch.
The rest is history. I camped all weekend and had a great time.
Nothing like a happy ending.

Couldn't get a replacement "bolt" for three days? Sounds like the mechanic wanted an early start to his weekend. The OEM warehouse isn't the only place to buy bolts. I would be really surprised if there was anything special about a water pump bolt on any vehicle manufactured by the big three.

Once the bolt broke late on Friday I was done. It was a specialty bolt. I won't say there was no where at all in Maryland that had this bolt but late Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend getting the bolt was next to impossible.
The bolt was not readily available at the normal sources until Tuesday.
Remember it was a holiday weekend!
I personally know the mechanic, he was trying to get me done. Putting a water pump on a Duramax engine is not a routine job. It is much more difficult than a typical water pump job.
Basically it was bad timing. While I was not happy I can think of a lot worse places and times for the water pump to fail.
Thanks to a stranger on Craigslist I manage to camp for the Holiday anyway. In the end I have no complaints or regrets.

No horror stories here! ๐Ÿ™‚
We camped on all of those weekends with no problems at all! Of course it kind of helped to be at our sons private family campground right in the middle of the woods. Full hookups too! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

We camped 4th of July in one TT cg and Labor Day in another TT cg...had fun both times, esp. the Labor Day trip.

We spent Labor Day weekend camping in the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park with no complaints (probably because it rained most of the time).

You're kidding, right? This can/does happen on any given weekend albeit rare in my experience. Sounds like you're just looking for a reason to dislike camping. Why not just stay home?

One of the CG's well pumps went down on Friday so water was rather scarce for half the CG; I think they took their baths in the CG pool and hot tub. I'm the pool boy so the first thing I did Tuesday was shock the pool and drain the hot tub!

Aside from that, there were drunks yelling and playing loud music through their outdoor speakers at late-night parties and a good time was had by all.

1. Yes, mine.
2. Didn`t go to bed until after midnight all 3 nights.
3. Yes, not so much, no.
4. Yes, 9 of them (not all mine thankfully)ranged from 15yrs - 1 yr
5. Yes, my 2, brothers 1, friends 1, Uncle`s 3, cousin`s 3
6. My friend took beers from my cooler, does that count?
7. No, middle of my Grandparent`s woods around a 2 1/2 acre pond.
Not nasty but I sure as heck won`t cross my grandma...
8. Between the kids running around like maniacs and the dogs crapping
everywhere I would say that the traffic was indeed terrible.
9. Stupid loud generator running putting a new roof on the
pavillion..
10. Broke the hinges on my stainless cooler..Ruined keeping my beer
cold but it did make me laugh a little everytime my friend stole
one!!
Do I win a prize? :@

Memorial Day, 4th or July and Labor Day..... All at large resort camp grounds with people everywhere and it was great! No bad neighbors and no issues, just a good time. To each there own but for me a ghost town of a campground sounds pretty boring and not for me. We like to people watch and cruz the cg on bikes or on the golf cart and look at all the different campers and their set-up.

The cup is half full not half empty. We go camping on holidays often and have never had a time so bad as to be called horror.

Been doing it for over 25 years in a RV. and 15 in a tent.

Well, since we full time, with no S&B. We have no choice but stay at a camp ground.
So far have not had a large problem. Try to just roll with it!

I swear you are the luckiest guy I know! Glad you were able to go camping and hope you got the truck back together! One thing about GM, seems like dealer parts inventory is way down and everything is being stocked in regional warehouses. Next business day delivery doesn't help when it's a holiday weekend....

Don you are correct GM dealers stock very little. Everything seem to be next day. A simple power steering hose i needed was next day.

My real gripe was local Chevy dealer claimed they could not even look at my truck's water pump issue until September 10th! Really! If I would have purchased my truck there I'd been pissed! I plan to avoid the place at all cost in the future.
