Well it happened to us again, but was a lot harder to resolve this time. The latch bar on ou Trimark loor lock broke, leaving us trapped inside the rv! With the help of the nice folks next door and the loanof a good drill, we were able to Finally escape! Worst case, we could have gotten out the emergency window, but needed to be inside to get the lock drilled and open. Very little damaveto the door, now just to get a new lock and fix it.

Finally got a new lock and after much fustration, got it installed and working. Note that with an exact replacement part, 1/64 inch can be a big difference. Replacing an older TriMark lock, you also have to replace the striker plate along with the lock. The lock replacement was easy, the striker plate presented some problems.

BTW, I always have some tool inside where I can get to them. My neighbor had a bigger drill though.

I did take it apart from the inside. Problem is that the plunger for the latch broke inside the housing, and was not accessable to be pulled back to release it, additionally, there are two screws on the latch side that cannot be reached with the door closed. I was able to drill through the housing with several holes and then was able to move the latch back far enough to get the door open. After that, it was all easy.

Wow, oldman, you made me go back & reread that, and still had to stare at it a while before I figured out what it said. :B

The inside of our door has a panel mounted with screws.

If you undo the screws and remove the panel, you have complete access to the door open/closure mechanism and the two locks (which are also mounted in the door with more screws).

It can all be taken apart in a few minutes - especially with a phillips bit in a power drill.

I may be screwy, but I have two tool boxes and a drill in the bedroom closet, and four tool boxes in the storage compartments.

Not all Class A's have a driver's door. I'm glad mine does. And if I ever buy another Class A, you can bet it will also! We've already been locked out of this one and inside of another one without a driver's door. (Luckily that was resolved fairly easily.)

Noel,

Your profile says you have a Class A RV.

If so ... wow .... apparently your rig only has one exit door besides the emergency exit?

(I wonder if an RV shop that was really worth it's salt couldn't somehow custom-install another door somewhere in your rig?)
