Since the Tribute is the same car ad the Ford Escape of that vintage, I bet it has the rotten 6F35 tranny in it. That is what is in my '10 Mariner. I have had good luck so far towing my Mariner, as have lots of people with 6F35 based suv's. But every time out is white knuckle time, wondering if my rear view camera is going to show a big plume of smoke.
I suggest you avoid towing it, even if you can. There are lots of reliable options.
according to some folks here, when you put a lube pump on, that is when your troubles will begin.

I would not believe that. A couple of failures vs hundreds can't be compared.
I got a quote from my Ford dealer today for a lube pump. YOU CANNOT BUY the pump from REMCO. It is a Remco pump modified for Ford and Ford buys only the pump and has developed its own hoses etc. As usual they have marked everything up many times just like most parts and accessories. The quote - $4,000 for the pump and they will give it to me for $3200. Installation $1,400. Do the people at Ford really think we are THAT foolish?
Not a hope will I put a lube pump on at this price. I have 26 months warranty left and will start towing it far more often. I've been on edge when towing because of all the burned out units and thus have not used the MH that much but now I'm saying nuts. I'll continue to follow the instructions in the TSB's to a T and Ford can replace it if it burns out. The lube pump prices must be darn close to the price of a new transmission.
I thought for my peace of mind when traveling the lube pump would be good and it would save Ford from having to spend 5g's on a new transmission. That was based on a assumed cost of $1500. I just can't understand Ford. Given their attitude I have to think our next toad will be the new Cherokee or a Honda CRV.

Am wondering if there are SUV's that are automatic that can be towed. I would trade it for one if so. Getting old and being a woman on the road alone means avoiding any problems I can. Suggestions for other vehicles. Yes, Escape is one. Others?
