I had the same problem after the 5er was in storage for a while. Turned out it was just the battery connection. Cleaned the terminals and connectors and everything was fine.

Yep...but if he ever stumbles back through, he will have plenty of good ideas to help him track down the problem.

Does not work on 12 volt:
Did they leave the house batteries in?
Are they any good (use volt meter).
Are they disconnected or turned off at a switch
What converter do you have (Only matters in a very few cases, Converter may be part of the power distribution panel for the house, epically of both fuses and breakers are in the same panel).
Bad wire
Other problem.

Give us the make and model of the converter.

The one thing it is NOT is the transfer switch... UNLESS you have one of a very limited number of converters.

Definitely what doesn't work on 12v? When on AC everything should work. When on DC you will lose the air conditioning, microwave, and all the household style AC outlets.

On DC you should still have
  • Water pump.
  • Refrigerator set to LP or gas.
  • Powered vent fans.
  • Water heater on the LP or gas setting.
  • Ceiling lights.
  • Furnace.

Do any of the DC loads listed above work when not on AC?

My neighbor put the battery cables on backward and blew a 30 amp fuse on the transfer switch. easy fix, hard to find. Look around near the coach battery. He has a Jayco C and the relay (switch) is just behind the coach battery tray. An arms length away behind the battery tray( Genius design)

Mine did that one time, there was a 12v circuit breaker that tripped when I had a battery short out.

Mine was under the dash near the 12v distribution block.

Let's start by what you mean " doesn't work"

120v items need 120v
They only work one of three ways
Plugged into external power
Generator is running
Or
You have a 12dc to 120vac INVERTER turned on , and the item in question is on THAT CIRCUIT
Tv and the entertainment is usually on inverter IF AVAILABLE, MW. air conditioning..washer DRYER vacuum cleaner, usually need shore or generator
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

There are many posibilities. Let's start with a battery disconnect switch.
Find an electrical person that knows RV 12volt systems. You have a converter, batteries, fuses and a circuit breaker involved.

Do you have a volt meter and know how to use it?

Let us know. We can help.
