Hello folks new guy here!! I have a question and I didn't know where to look and I love the gun forum I belong to so I decided to find me a good travel trailer forum and here I am ๐Ÿ™‚ I am VERY new to the world of RV's. My wife and I came across a 2008 Forest River Salem 29FKSS that is in fantastic condition at a fantastic price or what I think is a fantastic price. My question is I have a 2002 GMC 1500 HD quad cab P/U and a 2009 GMC yukon, I know the pickup would be the best towing vehicle but the wife likes the comfort of the yukon. What are your opinions of towing it with the yukon? Thanks for having me!! I can't wait to scroll through the forum and do some reading from the professionals! And thanks in advance for the replies!

$6k off retail is only a good deal if retail was $16k. I would expect at least 30% off MSRP for most TTs. Mine was 33%, my buddy was 40%, both custom orders.

....snip......I fell in love with the layout of the Salem 29FKSS! And it was about 6k below retail!! We will keep looking until we come across what we want. Thanks for all the replies and knowledge!

You are more than welcome. By the way, everybody but me gets $6,000 or more off the price of new trailers. 20-30% discounts are common, if you can believe what you read on here. (Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't)

You already knew the right answer and answered it yourself. That 1500 HD is basically a light duty three quarter model which is much better suited to towing your trailer. Let the wife follow in the Yukon. ๐Ÿ™‚

๐Ÿ™‚ Yes I knew it was the best veh for the job but was just wanting if it would be safe for the us and the veh if we did tow with the Yukon. Unfortunately they sold the Salem out from under us before I could pick it up, so we are back at square one ๐Ÿ˜ž I fell in love with the layout of the Salem 29FKSS! And it was about 6k below retail!! We will keep looking until we come across what we want. Thanks for all the replies and knowledge!

I created write-up for my father-in-law when he was asking about towing with his Toyota 4Runner:
What Can I Tow?

And then a specific page for him with the details filled in:
A Real World Example

See if they help you do the math for both of your tow vehicles.

Your trailer's GVWR is 7910 Lbs so you will be looking at tow that can safely huddle this weight.
The best way would of-course be to pull the trailer (loaded) to a scale this will give you the real weight of your trailer .
Here is towing guide that will help you to chose your tow.
From first glance I would say you will have to go for 3/4 ton truck.

I like that towing guide. I wish a guide existed to give each vehicles typical net load capacity.

Check your owners manual for your specific vehicle. You need to know your engine size and rear axle ratio. I had similar vehicles and am thinking this is a little too much trailer weight.

without knowing the specs of either vehicle, it's not easy to say.
simply stating year and model isn't as important as engine size, rear end ratio, factory tow package or not.
