I thought I would share this with everyone.

The other day, I needed something out of my clipper, so I popped in to grab it. I had been doing some stuff in there a while back and so I knew I had some things out of place. However, when I walked in, I noticed some clothes lying around - they are normally in ebags packing cubes. Then I saw my gloves on the doghouse (they were in the console), and a pad of paper. There was a note. I don't have it right here, but it said something about please. Then "they want to kill it", and then something about just do it.

The handwriting was very nice and everytbing but please was spel!ed correctly.

Well, with that, I looked carefully at everything. What this person did NOT do:

Steal anything (I had a camera, telescope, mp3 player, lanterns, etc., All things that would have been worth cash or handy to have.

Do any damage. Nothing was broken, ruined, vandalized, etc.

What he did do:

Had a couple sodas (I stopped drinking them, so they were over a year old)
Ate my all-dressed chips (OK, that one made me mad)
Ate some good-n-plenties
Slept in my overhead bed.

Toilet appears unused. But for ick factor, I will wash all clothing, bedding and wipe down everything.

There was no break-in, so I must have left the door unlocked.

While I know there are folks who will harp on how horrid this is, I can honestly say I am not upset or anything. I have since locked it up and will be more careful in the future. But, this was most likely a schizophrenic and not some tweaker or lazy arse. He had a nice warm restful night, had something to eat, treated my stuff well, and left me a thank you note. 🙂

Seriously, I consider myself lucky and in the end I helped someone out.

Yes, there was technically a crime, but not one that the police will have much purpose in going after.

It's not that I'm blowing it off, but a criminal trespass or a theft of 2 sodas, a bag of chips and some good-n-plenties isn't worth taking the police away from the serious stuff. And if this guy were still hanging around, it'd be different.

I think toedtoes has the right view of this. It happened but don't know exactly when so the police would take the report and it would be shelved. A waste of effort. Nothing of real value taken. Just be more watchful going forward. Who knows maybe something good came from it. We just won't know.

Call me cynical but I'd be afraid he tampered with something in the rig or stashed drugs. I'd check it thoroughly before going anywhere. Most likely it was someone who just needed a place to sleep-maybe a kid who had a fight with his parents and "ran away" or someone just passing through. Either way I'd proceed with extreme caution. I also would report it to the police. Next time you might not be so lucky.

No doubt there are homeless here. And no doubt I got off easy.

I usually lock it, but sometimes I've forgotten. Apparently, this was the time it mattered. And for that I'm thankful.

When I was stuck in Georgia (McINtonsh County) for 3 years I was doing some voulenteer work at a Thrift Store.. Someone came in and ask about homeless Veterns (Obama had a plan to find 'em housing) Well. I ask the #2 man in the Sheriff's Dept (Figured he'd know) and his reply was"
"We have no homeless veterans because we have no homeless because we have no shelters".

Well I know for a fact there are Homeless in McIntosh County.. I've met some (So have law enforcement..same ones in fact.. (Law enforcement officers met them before I did). and I've seen evidence.

You too have seen evidence it seems.

Yeah, they're my "driving snack". The all-dressed chips are delish! Thank goodness I can get them here in California now - used to have to folks bring them back from Canada for me.

We have a high number of homeless in the area. They live along the river and come further in for food and such. It's fairly pleasant for winters - only the occasional cold spurt that takes us below zero. No snow.

I believe it happened late last week as I remember dogs in the neighborhood barking more than usual. I don't think at this point the police could do anything - there's no way to know who it was unless they try to match handwriting.

If I hear or see anything that indicates he's come back, I'll call and offer him a warm blanket and food to find another bed, but for now, there's not much use in reporting it other than creating paperwork for the police.

You may want to report to the police, it maybe related to other crimes in the area. Even if it is a schizophrenic he/she may need help winters on it's way. Last case I had like that was a teen that had been thrown out of his home. Got him sent to job corps where he had a place to sleep, a job, and eats.

That's how I'm seeing it. There was no harm done and someone who needed it got a safe place to sleep and relax for a bit. And he wasn't a danger to anyone else for a night.

You didn't need a room full of sociologists or social workers, many hours of pouring over economic data or recidivism rates, or any of the other things that diminish the effects of getting aid to the person-in-need.

Mobeewan is right. You should have called the police. Now he/she will know RVs are a good place to eat and sleep. Hopefully mine won't be next.
