Glad I also live in TN. No income tax, yes high sales tax 9.75% but we can control what we spend.

TT renewall $17.00

Vehicle renewal $29.00 plus $9.00 for emissions testing except on my one-ton which doesn't require emissions testing.

State voted to do away with emissions testing just this month.

County wheel tax to pay for two high schools that were built in 1971, really expensive schools apparently, 52.50, used to be $25.00

Several counties in and around Seattle have an added RTA tax in addition to the normal licensing fees. Our RV license was over $1700 for one year when we renewed last week. Approx $1600 was for the Rapid Transit Tax (RTA). Unreasonable tax based on purchase price of the RV. OUCH!!!!!!!! Literally thinking of moving out of the greater Seattle area to where fees, taxes, and cost of living are so much lower.

If ya know someone north of the Stilliguamish have that as your address on the registration.

Remember who ya vote for.

I live North of the Stillaguamish River, ON Stillaguamish Ave.

Here in PA, in addition to the State Registration Fee a County Tax of $5 is added. Doesn't matter if your trailer weight 100 lbs or 10,000 lbs, you still pay $5. ??????

Here is the current list of counties that are hogs.

I don't think it was necessary for another member to give a rude comment.

As a PA. resident, I think it's pretty funny to watch members here snivel about a $5 county fee. Others talk of $3000 annual personal property tax on a pickup truck, and $1700 in registration fees for a motorhome. Now this is before anybody from CA. jumps onboard with their obscene RV plate costs, or anybody from VA. with their massive annual personal property taxes on anything with wheels, or a hull.

The problem with my fellow PA. residents whining, is they have no idea what some of the options are out there. My motorhome registration is currently 87% less than my father paid for his similarly valued motorhome in California, THIRTY YEARS AGO! The DW and I did a lot of this math, as we covered the eastern 2/3rd of the states, over a few year period of fulltiming, and shopping for a place to retire. Our state tax burden this past year was 4/10th of one percent of our gross income. This is meaningless compared to many other states we ran the numbers on. If you cry about a $5 increase in a registration fee, all I can say is take a look around. There are plenty of places where you can move where your costs (insurance, registration, income taxes, etc....) will be exponentially higher than in PA. and you would wish that you were only crying about five bucks.

Wow. Down here in SW WA my trailer is $41.75 and the 3500 is $101, way better than the old excise tax. Oh well, Rapid Transit is the reason your roads are clear and free moving!!!! This might be the reason why a petition to reduce registration fees is currently floating around.

Depends on the county, I just renewed and didn't pay the extra fee. The motorhome was less than $200, which is apparently pretty cheap, compared to some states.

Have you ever looked at the extra add on fees form the electric company? Actual usage of electricity may be only $25.00 a month. After all the fees added on, it's $125.00 a month. I'm not kidding, look at your detailed electric bill for your house.

We have PPL, a giant utility covering PA. my lowest bill in the last year was $21.89. This was largely fees, as the house was empty, with only an oil furnace and a few very light loads on. The highest was $111. When the AC was basically going 24/7. This is a sixty year old, 1400 sq. ft. all masonry house, that is essentially uninsulated.

When it comes to fees, one big difference between here and the midwest may be that our state government refuses to allow utilities to pile "legacy costs" of billions of dollars on to homeowners, as a result of the nuclear industry no longer being able to compete with natural gas and renewables.

Now do you begin to understand why working people are leaving the high tax states?
In a move that shows how well this is understood, Connecticut just raise some taxes because their tax base is shrinking and they need more money to pay for things that are not a benefit to the citizens.

Mortimore,

The problem with your example is that even then, there were motorfuel taxes in most states that were supposed to maintain the roads.

Notice the word FEES???? That's because the SOB's were limited to $30 licensing fee with an initiative vote. So as long as it is a fee and not a tax they can get away with it!

Just look at the ones that vote for these fees, I guarantee you they have a big "D" next to their name.

These threads always make me so very glad that we live in Montana!
ANY vehicle 11 years old or older can have PERMANENT registration.
ANY trailer, regardless of size or type, gets PERMANENT registration.
ALL motorcycles, including street-legal ATVs, get PERMANENT registration
ALL boats get PERMANENT registration, but the Coast Guard requires an annual sticker, but the sticker is free.
In August, I will put PERMANENT registration on the PT Cruiser. That will complete my no-renewal wish list. Never again will I have to renew license tags!
Unless, of course, we buy a different vehicle...
