Reserve America requires SS number?

Just spent an hour on reserve america, where I've booked camp sites for several years. It was not a fake site as I could look around at campsites, etc. I went to book and it said I am required to put in an SS number as part of a Federal code to catch deadbeat parents for unpaid child support....THAT IS NOT ME!

Point is, I immediately closed the page. Is this normal? I would never give an SS number to reserve america. What gives?

In some places, they are legally REQUIRED to get photo ID from all customers.

mleekamp cited the text of the law, but the link for it is here. So this is just a Kansas thing.

I don't think this is just a Kansas thing. If you want a hunting or fishing license in Wisconsin you must give your SS. They told me the same thing. So they can collect child support. I don't make reservations so i've never been asked. Heck, in dealing with the goverment ( and Reserve America probably ) has your information already. I know in Georgia and Florida give them your phone number and they will have everything on you already, probably even know about the mole on your left butt cheek.

WI does not require SS# to make camping reservations.

I really think this paranoia over stuff like is kind of funny. I'm not trying to be offensive to anyone, but it is naive to think that you have any level of privacy. Do you use a credit card? Then there is more information about you in the hands of private parties than you can possibly imagine. Do you have retail loyalty cards? Now you've given away more information. Target is just one company among many that does heavy marketing research, and here is what they are able to do with that information about us.

And of course you do use the Internet. Do you realize that even though you clear your browser's cache and run a fire wall, that everything you do on the net is cached on various servers and networking equipment? Its not done to track you, but to speed up your experience. but what could be done with that data?...

Privacy is a myth. We lost it long before the Internet came along. That doesn't mean I agree with collecting SS#s, but don't think that keeping your SS# a secret is keeping your personal info private. Not even close.

If a social security number isn't a big deal, then share yours! Everyone who wants to stay at a Kansas state park can just use that. See...problem solved, and thank you!

Campground reservations clearly do not involve the granting of a license but, as is all too common nowadays, Kansas is interpreting the law as broader than it is in order to avoid any possibility of liability. It is the same thing as when I asked Forest River to sell me some touch-up paint: they said that Federal law forbids the mailing of paints. Wrong. The law treats non-water-soluble paints as a hazardous substance, but shipping limited amounts through the mail is legal, so long as certain requirements are met. Lawsuits, whether government or private, are expensive to fight, so everyone is treading on eggshells.

As has been noted, this law was to find "deadbeat dads", and has been noted has been around for a long time. It was first passed in 1994, and amended a few time since.

http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/USCODE-2010-title42/html/USCODE-2010-title42-chap7-subchapIV-partD-sec666.htm is the source for the following

(13) Recording of social security numbers in certain family matters.โ€”Procedures requiring that the social security number ofโ€”

(A) any applicant for a professional license, driver's license, occupational license, recreational license, or marriage license be recorded on the application;

(B) any individual who is subject to a divorce decree, support order, or paternity determination or acknowledgment be placed in the records relating to the matter; and

(C) any individual who has died be placed in the records relating to the death and be recorded on the death certificate.

The hammer that the Feds hold over the States is this case is the withholding of certain Federal funds if they do not comply.

Unlike the above post, is certain cases, any Child Support would be helpful, as was the case in a relative of mine. No child support at all for the 16 years of the minor child's life after the divorce.

As you will note, camping reservations is not included, so Kansas does NOT have to ask for your SSN for a camping reservation to comply with Federal Law as they stated.

Sorry, Kansas, no State Campground reservations for me through Reservation America.

But I wish the above poster would have included the link that was given to him from the State to bypass this onerous requirement.

Uh, no.

Your local hotel/motel has no interest in "tracking" you. Does everyone realize that there are over 350,000,000 Americans? Do you really think that YOU are so important that the Super 8 is eager to track your movements and/or turn that information over to the government?

The hotels/motels are only concerned about protecting their property. If you pay $60 in cash for a room and proceed to steal everything and set the room on fire, how would they collect if you don't give ID or credit card?

Come on.

Sometimes I am worried that some of you are driving the same roads as my family and me. To make it worse, you are driving HUGE vehicles or pulling HUGE trailers!

At the moment a person is suspect of a crime, in litigation, a divorce proceding, child custody battle, terrorist threat, you better believe Super 8 is there with all the information about your stay and all the other movements you have made includind inquiries via internet, cellphone and land line. What do you think all the huff about the NSA is?

"You can run, but you can't hide." It came true. And many people who read all the books about spying, Big Brother and Agenda 21 said, never in my country. Think again. It's already too late.

:h

Why would anyone bother to check Motel booking records when practically everyone in the U.S.A. has put themselves on the 24/7 it-can-find-you "cellphone leash"?

Except me...:B

I'll stay in Kansas campgrounds no problem. I'll give them my long deceased grandmothers SSN when I book. No problem at all!! Why boycott a perfectly lovely state full of nice campgrounds because you can't or refuse to be creative in your thought process.

SS numbers really aren't required to track spending habits.

Consumption habits are already tracked whenever you use a credit/debit card.
This isn't just for nefarious government purposes - it's already sold to advertisers/marketers.

This is all part of Agenda 21 as established by the United Nations. Tracking consumption is at the top of the list. Their goal is to make all humans on the planet equal in terms of economy. They keep requiring more and more information. Little by little they add another piece until eventually they will have it all.

Sounds nuts, doesn't it? Sustainability is a code word used by Agenda 21 and is now at all levels of government. By asking for the SS number and using empathy by way of "tracking down deadbeat dads", people are more likely to cooperate thus expanding the database and tracking your habits, and your consumption.

Remember: GLOBALIZATION IS THE STANDARDIZATION OF SYSTEMS THROUGH INVENTORY, MONITORING, AND CONTROL.
