Roof Weight

Hey all! I want to clean the roof of my 2000 Dutch Star. The question is, I weigh in the 300 lb area. Will I damage the roof walking around up there while cleaning it? I'd stay as close to the edge as possible.

That's an "understatement", especially when snow covered! ๐Ÿ˜‰ memtb

Actually, unless you wear knee pads it's probably harder on your roof to do it that way. Kneel on the floor and consider how small the area of your knee is that contacts the floor. Now stand and compare your footprint to your kneeprint. Plus your knees tend to be more pointed than the sole of your shoes. Your flat-soled shoes will most likely do a better job of spreading the weight over a larger area.

I get on my roof frequently via the attached ladder. The only places I am uncomfortable with the roof is on the front cap. I climb up there to snap on the windshield cover as I do not have a separate ladder. The roof flexes quite a bit in front of the SAT Dome. I'm 200lb.

Wow thank each and all of you, you have been most helpful. I did email Newmar, but even if they do not response you comments help so very much. I'll tell everyone when I'm finished to let all know how it went

You should however be concerned about using the ladder that may be attached at the rear, those do have a weight limit. Use a free standing ladder.

You should be fine but no high heels or golf shoes. I generally work on the roof from a ladder on the side or kneeling. My roof is 25 yrs old and I am 270lbs.

I walk the roof of my Mountain Aire and I'm 260. The folks at Newmar are bery helpful. Call them or just drop them an email. They respond fairly quickly.

Every single RV has a AC on its roof. That AC weighs in at near 100#. It took 2 guys to handle that thing & install it. Keeping track of weight here? Then there is all the other stuff installed on that roof by people during construction. How many people do you see on roofs of RVs at NASCAR races?

As long as you are not having a square dance up there I would not worry too much.

Some recreational vehicle roofs are walk on, some aren't. IIRC Dutch Star is a Newmar product and since Newmar is still in business it would seem logical to just contact the manufacturer and ask them rather than accept WAGs from those of us here on the forum who don't really know for sure about the roof on your particular unit.
