Okay, why in the heck did gas just go from 4.09 this morning to 4.25 this afternoon in Washington State????? :h

I saw that the 'per barrel' price went down again today too... :R

Is it just a "SHELL" thing?? I'll need to drive around a bit and see what the other "Top Tier" stations are at.. Well heck, I should check ARCO, just to see where they are at.. They are usually around .10 lower per gallon then Shell, but I've never liked ARCO gas.... Just my own prejudice, so don't get all "flamie" on me.. ๐Ÿ˜›

This really suck$....

From what I found on the net its around the BP Cherry Point refinery not able to restart the crude distillation unit there and that caused a spike in fuel prices along the coast.

Locally Shell, etc 87 is now $3.49

Based on the news out of China and India today I expect this downward spiral to continue for 2012 short of war.

The same thing here in Medford, Oregon area, $4.09 on Thursday and $4.29 today at 76 & Shell, at Pilot it was $3.99 this is exit 33 at Central Point, Oregon. On Thursday night ABC news had a segment on oil from the US and they said that we export more oil than we import. They are sticking it to us as usual.

Gasoline prices continue to drift down. Filled up the motor home at Sam's Club for $3.61. Diesel continues to be 50ยข a gallon higher than gasoline.

Hurrah! Oil is below $100 a barrel. There is hope for lower fuel costs this summer.

On edit: Fox News just had the price at $96.86 per barrel....:B

Ya know when I talk to my barber he is doing fine, when I talk the my RV dealer he is having a great year, when I talk to my cousin the farmer he wants lower fuel costs but is doing well, when I talk to my friend a baker and restaurant owner he is a little slow until summer but doing just fine and expanding.

Point is, with business if you don't have a model or the where with all to market what you have then go flip burgers or do somethin else, period, stop the whine.

Tomman58 our cross country trip to the Pacific last fall helped open my eyes to point you make.

Fuel/energy cost has impacted everything. A local low end country club is down about 35 members from last year so they have a $50K smaller budget. The owner of a local seven screen theater stated this week it is harder to get people to drop money on going to the movies.

Yet I wanted change for a $1 for the gumball machine and stood behind a kid that was not short on food at home who had just bought at least one $8 ticket then dropped $10.50 on popcorn, etc.

Businesses are closing yet McDonalds, Arby's, Dominos and Dunkin Donuts are moving to town or building new locations from scratch.

Successful business models always replace the other type. Those who learn to reduce normal business expenses equal to the increase of energy costs will do OK.

There are new industries being born just because of higher energy costs. Gas is not $.25 like it was in 1973 when I bought my first new car for $2150.

One either increases income or decreases out go. Debt is the wild card in the world today more than energy costs as I see it.

Gale we also drive the USA every year and sometimes go from Mi to Oregon and Washington others to Az and Fl. We are well aware of fuel prices (being on fixed incomes). We see the poverty across the US from the Appalachia's to Texas to Mississippi. This poverty has been there forever and nothing has been done to relieve most of it. We do see businesses closed but then a lot of those I think were marginal to begin with. I agree also that there are a lot of restaurants you can't get seated in because they are full. A lot of those aren't your McDs. We see casinos packed across the country. Concerts public events packed. Bars packed. Costco packed. We never go to Walmart but even the poor pack that store.
The economy is fragile right now but we do witness a slow growth and from family to friends we are seeing most employed and more buying the big items.
If there is anything that needs a hand most it is the middle class but then we have been beaten on for years and now are being reduced further.
Good luck in your travels and there is so much to see and do in our country we never tire of looking and being part of RVing in the USA

Wouldn't balance be something to think about? No one I've heard from suggests there should be no restrictions on businesses. But oppressive, anti-business government, which necessarily depends on those businesses for income, is...Oh, well.

Darned capitalism. That's sure not a problem in socialist countries. They just charge $8 whether you're desperate or not. The more government holds your hand, the tighter its grip.

Yup, should probably get rid of the anti-trust laws too. Patent and copyright stuff too, all just government interference in a free market economy.

A pure free market would work except for one problem, greed.

Prices have been dropping a penny here or there over the last 3 weeks. Then, for whatever reason our stations went up $.10/gal in 2 days!!!! Now we're back in the $4.27/gal range and we're not even close to the annual Memorial Day gouge fest!!!! :M

That kind of price hike based solely on someones desperate need should be included in the definition of gouging, and therefore illegal. No new law, just update the definition of gouging.

Darned capitlism. That's sure not a problem in socialist countries. They just charge $8 whether you're desparate or not. The more government holds your hand, the tighter its grip.

I guess the best fuel play for us is to fill our three vehicles when they're at about the half full mark, when they're not on trips. Even then, it's about $75 on two of them and nearly 60 on the Expy.

We spent about $1200 for fuel traveling the 1700 mile round trip to the Phoenix valley this year with me pulling our TT and DW pulling the toys. Ain't right. Ain't necessary.

There's no way to account for prices of gas/diesel. '08, oil 145, gas, $4. '12, oil 100, gas, $4. Searching for reasons online I have run across multiple explanations of how oil prices are reflected in the price of gas. I guess that relationship ends at $100. :h
