Scare on I-24 last night

We were traveling on I-24 eastbound last night and saw what I thought at first was a tow truck with a Really Bright set of yellow flashing lights on the rear coming towards us on I-24 westbound.

Turns out it was a Ryder truck with a car dolly and what looked like a civic type car.

The entire dolly and front of the car were on fire!

We were about to call 911 when we saw a police officer chasing down the burning rig.

I know it's just speculation on my part but the obvious reason for this fire would have been a locked up wheel or a bad wheel bearing.

Any other ideas as to what could have caused something like this?

Thanks!

I know a guy that was towing with a dolly. The wheel bearings on the passenger side bad and a dolly wheel came off. He was flagged down before he started the tow dolly or car on fire, but not before he had started several miles of dry ditch banks on fire!!!!!!!

My son hauls cars over the road. He once had new brakes put on his trailer. He was hauling exotic, fancy cars at the time. Was the middle of the night going down I95 and his brakes on the trailer caught fire because the shop adjusted them tight. Sitting right on top of the burning brakes on the rear axles was a custom, one of a kind, Corvette. It was totaled. Over $100,000 damage. Insurance company went after the shop that did the brakes.

Well, it's either going to be friction or electrical.
Certainly not the way to start out a new life (assuming that they were moving).:(

Any all wheel drive vehicle towed on a dolly would probably catch fire fairly soon after starting a run down the interstate.
