Sensitive Issue

Don't know if this issue has ever been addressed before. However, here goes.

In my way of thinking to be out there in the country day and night inside an RV without a means of protection from the criminal element is pure stupidity. Your RV is your home away from home and should be treated the same way as your permanent home. I know that there are a myriad of conflicting state laws including laws for concealed carry. Some states, like my state of Florida, a weapon for protection is almost required by the government. In New York, not so much.

So, what do most of you people do? Do you carry a weapon in the RV anyway and hope for the best? Do you have a concealed weapon's permit which is reciprocal in many states but not all? Do you carry a shotgun or rifle, which I believe is allowed in all states? Or, how about a high powered pellet gun which I believe is legal in all states? I would imagine that this inquiry is applicable for traveling to Canada, too. :h

All you're doing is fuelling the climate of fear and misinformation. If RVing scares you, don't do it. Mods will probably lock this soon and they should.

I/We carry 24/7/365 except gubmint buildings, and other places where not allowed. I've been in parts of Southern Texas at night with the wife holding her sawed of 16 ga. pump just in case. Border Patrol stopped us twice and warned to keep moving and do not stop just before so she got prepared. Southern Texas is such a beautiful place to visit in the daytime. I keep a 9mm shouldered most of the time traveling. At home I'm satisfied with a .38 air weight in pocket.
It is your right to carry or not carry, but I like the insurance.
I am afraid of Griz and Gators but people-----------never saw one that I was afraid of.

PS, We don't bother with the States that don't allow firearms nor do we visit Canada or Mexico.

It is that kind of stupidity that reflects badly on the rest of us. Glad you told the fool to put his gun away.

If I was full-timing, I'd be carrying my hunting gear. When I hunt, I transport firearms. In my resident State, MN, there are lots of laws about transporting firearms and carrying a loaded weapon with/without the proper permit. I haven't hunted out of State but I'm sure most States are similar.

I dunno', RVing and packing a handgun just don't seem to mix, IMO. It's not like I'd be worried about a home invasion or some such. FWIW, I lived in TX for a few years and I didn't understand the need there, either, but it seemed like even the elderly women were carrying a handgun.

I did have to tell an adjacent camper to pack up his chrome plated 45 revolver and not bring it out again while I was there. This was in Yosemite Park and it was a safety issue. The camper with the gun had it trained on a threesome of brown bears. It might have been real ugly for everyone had he pulled the trigger.

If you feel comfortable with a gun or rifle in your rig, do it. There a many places with a list of gun laws. Try a local gun shop, or maybe the NRA would know.
Personally, no gun at home, no gun when traveling.

I still own the 22 single shot bolt action I got for Christmas when I was 10.

But I don't carry it in my RV. Only kept it in my house before I sold it for nostalgia sake.

Got out of the habit of owning/ keeping guns during my 20 years in the US military. Danged hard to move them across oceans. Some countries really don't want them.

Never felt a need to get one since.

I do not camp where I feel it is not a basically safe area. Yet I have many friends who do keep weapons because they don't feel safe anywhere without them, including my son.

You do what you feel necessary. But do take some time to look up and understand the various states gun laws.

I haven't had a car accident in 35 years. However, I still buy insurance (and obviously required to do so), and haven't had to file a claim.

I carry a weapon with me, and if I go (or plan to go) in states that my state does not have reciprocity, I make a decision to either (a) leave the weapon at home or (b) not go. I have yet to feel the need to use it, and good lord willing, I never will.

This is certainly a polarizing subject, but it never ceases to amaze me how people jump immediately to stating if one is so scared to camp without a weapon, they ought to stay home. It is not a binary answer. One can be prepared without being paranoid. There is a huge difference.

Those that choose not to have a firearm have that right, but do try to take away the right to have one by the rest of us. They can have mine when it is empty & they pry it from my dead hands. ๐Ÿ™‚

You can either protect yourself and your family or trust that the government will be there for you when you are in need. It is a choice.

Trust me. What you've seen is nothing. This has been a walk in the park so far. Do a search on the subject. There are hundreds of threads out there - all closed, all having turned into spewing quagmires of hate.

Geeze, you ask a loaded question then get huffy when you get honest answers.
