Towing Cadillac SRX: Braking wires thru firewall?

I am installing a RVibrake2 on my 2015 Cadillac SRX. The installation requires a 12-volt cable be routed through the firewall to the battery since the 12-volt receptacles in the cabin are dead during towing. It also requires that the breakaway cable be routed through the firewall.

Question: Where did you route your wires through the firewall? Did you use an existing rubber grommet?

Or, did you drill a hole somewhere in the floor or door threshold?

I am having difficulty finding a location to run the wires and would appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies.

The Cadillac SRX requires that you install a 12-volt cigarette lighter receptacle under the dash and wire it directly to the battery since the OEM outlets are dead when towing (Engine off and vehicle in neutral).

And, like many braking units, the RVibrake requires a breakaway switch in the front bumper with the wire running to the RVibrake in the DS floor.

So, my dilemma is where to run the two wires. The firewall is double walled. I found one grommet where the hood release runs through the firewall but I cannot get a probe through that location.

I will look at the steering wheel grommet. Is there anything I can mess up by running the wire next to the steering wheel?

dont know about your vehicle but most have a rubber grommet for the steering column to go thru that is where I ran my wires into the vehicle from. Dont know about running the break away cable thru the fw unless you mean the electric side of it from the switch which again could go thru the steering column grommet

I have a 2012 SRX and could not find a suitable place to run the breakaway wires for my brake buddy so ran along the driver side of engine compartment and thru the fender well at top by battery and down the door frame to inside by floor.

For the 12 volt power I ran an extension wire from the plug in the rear compartment(always hot) to the plug for the brake buddy.
