wall separated from floor?

Hello, We own a 2007 Funfinder that we bought new in 2006. We have taken it all over the country. 4 trips to the west 4 trips to the south and many many trips around the NE area. We have had some minor and not so minor issues over the years but all were resolved some while on the road but most at the place we bought it Campers Inn in Kingston NH.We have always taken care of any issues immediately and my husband would always insist on taking it to Campers Inn to be winterized and de-winterized every year. And at the same time had any minor issues looked at. This week was the first time he finally did it himself.

We love our camper and as of right now have no real desire to buy another one. Our 4 week trip to the Keys in February with 7 nights at Long Key State Park in Florida was a no go as camper and truck was under 10 ft of snow for about a month. I lucked out getting reservations for the last week in April in Bahia Honda State Park due to a cancelation.

As I was packing things this morning I looked down into the storage areas under the bench seats and was shocked to see the driveway through a 1" by 3ft gap between the wall and the floor. We are bringing it to Campers Inn tomorrow to have them look at it but it looks like this trip might be a no go also. Not the worst thing in the world and we can deal with it.

I came here to find out if this has ever happened to anyone here...the wall pulling away from the floor and leaving a gap to the outside. Is this serious structural damage? The only thing we can think it might be is that over the years the bench on one side loosened up over the years and finally all the screws came completely out of the wall. We had it fixed in November. This was going to be our first trip for this year so it was today that I found it.

Has anyone else had this issue? Was it able to be repaired or did you have to get rid of it and buy a new one? Campers Inn told us today that they are booked solid for the next 2 weeks.

Sorry for the long story. I did do a search her and on FunFinder Forum but could find anything about this situation. We just had to get a new washing machine, a new garbage disposal and me new glasses this week!

Thank You
Marianne

Several of us had the same issue in the slide out on our Rockwood ROO's. What we were able to do is remove the rubber cover on the trim molding that ran along the bottom outside edge of the wall and re-screw the wall to the floor. It seemed that the factory screw were to short and went in at an angle and missed the floor.

Thank you all for such quick replys. My husband brought it to Campers Inn early this morning and they told him it is an easy fix and could be done right then. So he is waiting there and will bring it home today and we can repack and be on the road tomorrow . Yeah!

i don't know yet what caused it but will post it when I find out.

One inch is no big deal, they can be pulled back together. You may need to add some steel plates or something to accomplish it though. Sounds like something got wet and warped/pulled apart so you may have to check for other water damage or wet wood and open it up and make sure it is dried out completely before you finish it off and close it back up.

If you are seeing a gap like that there is a structure issue not just the plywood . If it is metal sided you have wood framing. Chances are the floor framing is rotted or at the least warped down. Most manufacturers of wood framed walls use elevator bolts to anchor the walls to the floor not just screws. These bolts have large surfaces to support the load and do not pull through. Be ready for some bad news sorry to say. I would start looking for a replacement

I'm a bit surprised that we haven't heard more of these stories from folks in New England.

If there was snow up and over the trailer's floor height, it's possible that the melting snow softened the floor where it attaches to the wall. If the plywood floor softens, the fasteners that hold it to the wall may have loosened and the floor has dropped down. If it was me, i'd apply construction adhesive to the area that has separated and drive screws through the floor, up into the wall's sill plate. Depending on the integrity of the floor, you may wish to add an additional piece of lumber under that separated area. I would use a 1 x 4 of exterior graded lumber or a piece of Trex decking. The plastic deck boards hold up real good to moisture.

I'm really sorry to hear that. It's kind of hard to picture though - any chance you can post an image?
